Thanks, I find it hard to keep on top of things at the best of times, with excuses like kids busy schedule, iregular work and hours and a complete lack of oomph. But over the last few weeks I have literly been working everyday and a few evenings aswell.

glitterfairy · 24/06/2007 09:59

I have had a lie in and then put away all washing and ironing and tidied floor of bedroom as a consequence. One load of washing on and slow breakfast being eaten with coffee as a treat.

Morning some of the 400,000!

Hi all, Lazylou suggested I come here to ask cleaning questions when I asked about my washing machine smelling damp. Hope it's ok. I am not good at housekeeping but am trying to get a grip on it. I have now noticed that the door seal around my washing machine is discoloured. I have scrubbed it well but can't get all the mark off. I seem to remember reading something about a paste of bicarb or baking soda removing stains but am I way off track here? I was tempted to use mildew remover but it said not to use on rubber and I really don't want to make my machine leak! Sorry to sound so pathetic. Please help!

Aufish · 24/06/2007 15:45

Good afternoon, just back for a update, am feeling pretty rough at the moment, think I'm coming down with something.

My done list:

Washing and more washing, all seems to have built up done
ironing done some
washing up and drying up done
hoover and mop the floor done
put away the pile of ironing done
clean the bathrooms not done yet
put clean tablecloth on table and clean the conservatory done
clean out the fridge not done yet
clean the kitchen sides done

Am going to have a kip and see if that brightens me up abit and then I had better get on with the showers and sorting out for tomorrow for the kids.

Hello ALL EHM, a big hug to you and one to Ellie too from Ed. Hope she's on the mend

Spent too much time drinking red wine and watching the Glastonbury footage from last night. Note to self...explore the Stooges back catalogue.

Been pottering today and tackling things to do. I pegged the washing out but had to bring it in and rewash it all after a heavy rain squall. Cleaned out the cat litter (Eeewwwww) and began a repair on the blessed loo roll holder in the bathroom (DS has been swinging on it to get on the loo!) But having a steady day.

I've got a job interview on Wednesday and I had to dig out my GCSE cert...It's 18 years old, hell I feel really old. I've also had to re-apply for my birth cert as I lost mine years ago and I have to prove I'm a bona fide person. I think this is an admin iniative test!

Hope you're all having nice weekends, that sick lo's are on the mend and that you are all well

Love, Grouchy and co xx

bedhed · 24/06/2007 18:59

  • pull out baby stuff for friend
  • hoover both rooms upstairs done
RBH · 24/06/2007 19:24

Thank you Ludaloo I will try that and let you know how I get on. Sounds like white vinegar is something I should have in as I have been told three uses for it just today!

ludaloo · 24/06/2007 19:57

RBH It is actually really handy. It is good at getting limescale off things too.
If you look on www.summernaturals.co.uk (I can't seem to link it as the page is currently unavailable...it may work later)They do loads of natural cleaning products and the likes....I get my vinigar, and bicarb etc from there.

SimplySparkling · 24/06/2007 20:00

RBH Welcome to the thread. I hope luda's suggestion works for you. I've no idea, myself!

Hello to all. I hope all those who aren't 100% i.e. Aufish and Ellie are feeling better soon.

I have done lots today and I need to keep on going so I won't post for long. See you all tomorrow or later in the week!

ludaloo · 24/06/2007 20:24

Ah Ha...its working now...

here

ludaloo · 24/06/2007 20:42

......ooooh just read the post about your washing machine....I don't think white vinegar would corrode the w/m really....I put it in the kettle sometimes and it loosens the limescale. I'm sure if you just wiped the seal with a damp cloth and vinegar it would be ok?

Any hoo....

I'll see you all tomorrow

Hi RHB

A few suggestions downloaded from the net:

Get rid of washing machine smells:

To try and clean the washing machine inside, try using Soda crystals which dissolve grease. I recommend putting half a packet inside the drum and washing on a boil wash (or follow instructions on the packet) Using this method every month or so, or using ordinary detergent if no soda crystals are available can help prevent smells from your washing machine. If your washing machine is badly affected by grease and slime, it may be very difficult to remove it.

Get rid of washing machine odours using vinegar:

White distilled vinegar has an array of uses. For bad washing machine smells, try putting half a cup of white vinegar inside an empty machine and put it on a boil wash. Because the first bit of water goes into the sump hose and is sealed off, I recommend that you wait until the washing machine has been filling for about 30 seconds and then pour the vinegar into the soap drawer to let it wash down into the machine.

Hope these help!

Just popping on to say goodnight to everyone. Haven't done much today as did practically everything yesterday . Had a bit of a lazy day really! Anyway, back to work tomorrow so probably won't be back here until Wednesday. If I don't manage to peek in before then, have a good few days ladies!

tortoise · 24/06/2007 21:46

Hi all.
Didn't do much today. Bit of a lazy day!
DS's cooked cookies with almost no help. I was going to put them in the oven but DS1 decided to do it himself without checking with me! He burnt tips of 3 fingers pulling out the bit to put the tray on. And ds2 said he put one oven glove on and pulled it out with the opposite hand! Poor boy.I did giggle a little at that. Aloe Vera plant came in handy and he is ok.

And the cookies are yummy! Most important of all is that they enjoyed it.

SimplySparkling · 24/06/2007 23:06

Oh, poor ds1, tort! Hopefully he won't do that again. Dd made a lemon drizzle cake. I printed off Mars' recipe but we couldn't fathom out the cake size and shape so we used the one in a recipe book and it tasted really nice!

Night all.
