DD was sick in the car last week and really avoided most of the seat but got the belt. I've scrubbed and scrubbed but it still stinks - what do I need to do oh wise ones???

bicarbonate of soda! Make a solution and spray or wipe it into the seatbelt - voila, end de vomit be gone!

My DD was a very sicky child and I always had a Spray to hand - I used one of the house plant sprayers, they’re few quid from the garden centre :)

Vinegar. Dangle it in a bowl of Vinegar, malt will do. Leave it to soak for an hour, then switch out for a bowl of hot water with bio washing powder in and scrub the bastard like you're getting paid for it. Grin

Then get another bowl of cold water and rinse it.

Vinegar will break down and get rid of the smell of sick and the washing powder will get rid of the smell of vinegar.

You can use pegs or bulldog clips to stop it retracting while you're trying to soak it.

Yes, it’ll work - it doesn’t work instantly, but it should be ok by the time the bicarbonate dries. Persistent smells might take a couple of sprays but honestly it works a treat - I found anything else just masks the smell rather than removing it

kitchencurios · 24/11/2018 16:09

Confirming that the bicarbonate solution worked a treat, just sprayed it on and left it to dry! Thank you!

This happened to us 20 years ago when DS was about four and we lived in a very hot country. We had to sell the car (at a huge loss) as we couldn’t get rid of the smell. We can almost laugh about it now Wink

Hoppinggreen · 24/11/2018 16:22

Have you pulled it out properly
DS vommed all over himself in the front of the car and I cleaned it up but it still smelled bad. Then I realised that when he had undone the seatbelt it had snapped back into the holder and taken the puke with it
Once I fully extend it and scrubbed it it was ok
