Any easy way to do this other than pay someone?

Nope. We paid someone £100 to clean ours, but oh my, it was sparking! He took all the fan apart, took it all out to his van, did some crazy chemical magic and it was gleaming. No way could that be replicated with home products.

Also he strongly advised against putting any parts of an oven into a dishwasher, which is a common tip on here and I had done myself, because it strips the protective coating off them.

Oven pride. It comes with a big plastic bag, into which you put half the chemicals and all your racks. Use the other half to clean your oven. Also you can dishwasher the racks.

Cleaning the glass is always a bit of a PITA, but it's got a lot easier since I bought one of those razors in a handle that's sold in DIY shops for scraping paint off windows. With a good soak beforehand, that does the job fairly easily for me.

The other way to make it easy is to do it more often than I do. I assume this is what those people who claim a dishwasher tablet works as a scraper, do. It works a bit for me but it's not easy or miraculous.

Astonish hob and oven cleaner! £1 from the range or B&M and a scouring pad . It’s fabulous stuff and so cheap! I did my oven today and it’s come up good as new!

mrsoutnumbered · 19/11/2018 12:17

Yes I second the Astonish paste, it is fab.

walkingintherain23 · 19/11/2018 12:21

Lakeland do an amazing oven cleaner, no effort required simply paint on the gel, leave for upto 24 hours then wipe off and it brings all the dirt off with it!

TimeToRevolutionize · 19/11/2018 15:04

Definitely astonish paste or the pink stuff

LashesZ · 19/11/2018 15:07

Lakeland to an oven cleaning tray big enough to put your racks in (or use a bath). I then CIF power and shine my racks and leave to soak. I CIF inside my oven and leave to soak, and then use an abrasive cream cleaner to get stubborn marks off. Finally I pop off my glass. Most oven glass doors screw off so you can clean in between the sheets of glass. Oven cleaning is so satisfying.

@thenewaveragebear1983 did they also clean the extractor fan? I would love mine done as I haven't dared to open it properly since moving in last year amd would love to be able to use the thing.

BikeRunSki · 19/11/2018 15:42

Oven Pride and Astonish do a good job, but the pros with their orangey chemicals do an amazing job.

BikeRunSki · 19/11/2018 15:43

My oven man does the fan, changed the lightbulb, the full shebang.

teabag20048 · 20/11/2018 09:45

Thanks I will try the astonish, got to be worth a try & Better than the £75 I have been quoted!

Longtom no they didn’t, although ours is a 1970’s monstrosity that’s long since stopped extracting! I didn’t think to ask to be honest.

Singlenotsingle · 20/11/2018 11:45

Had mine done last week. It cost £85 but it is a double oven range type thingy. It took the man 3 hours but looks lovely!

Bigonesmallone3 · 20/11/2018 11:46

I got muscle oven cleaner and an oven scraper, worked beautifully

PeridotCricket · 20/11/2018 11:48

If its bad. Get a man in and then keep on top of cleaning it more regularly. I was embarrassed by how sparkling mine was when he'd finished.
