Really slow rubbish tumble dryer - alternatives?

The dryer in my rental is so rubbish and slow but I don't always have radiators on to dry indoors and am not keen on drying outside.

Is there a way to improve the dryer eg those eco ball things? Do they work, or should I buy an electric heated airer?

Is it a condenser dryer? If so, cleaning all the accumulated fluff out of the condenser every few weeks makes a big difference to drying time. I clean mine by running water through it in the shower.

Yes it is so I will try that.

Best I ever had is a cheap beko condenser

pikachupoo · 15/11/2018 22:40

I had to learn to clean the fluff out..

And take the filter out to clean

They weren't the same thing!

But it's amazing

Please explain as maybe I'm diing that wrong?!
I clean the pull out filter thing.

There's the fluff filter in the door and a filter usually underneath the door .
Mine has three swivel hooks , its metal sided. Rinse under the tap and dry.

Have you tried dryer balls?

PickAChew · 15/11/2018 23:36

You nerd to clean them after every load.

pikachupoo · 15/11/2018 23:52

Mine I didn't know about us an amazing long metal tube at the bottom - square shape door, 3 hooks to uncatch

Soooo satisfying running the shower through it and catching blue fluff in the bath strainer

I have a Bosch condenser and there are three things to clean - the lint trap in the door (every load, both the trap itself but also the slot), the big pull out filter thing in the bottom, but also I discovered I have to every so often reach into the cavity where the rectangular filter slots in, and clean some kind of reservoir back there otherwise it builds up and triggers the sensor that the water tank is full. If all three of those are done, and the washing is spun at 1400rpm, then it's optimal drying conditions!

If you don't have the instruction manual look online for it.

Lint traps

Don't over fill

Lidl have tumble dryer spikey ball things in at the moment

I think the eco dryers dry by puffing warm air over things for a long slow dry rather than blasting with hot air like driers used to. I have a samsung and it's good point is that you can put different fabrics in and they come out not too creased. The downside is that it is slow and stuff often isn't completely dry, two bath towels yesterday were quite damp.
Perhaps get a dehumidifier to speed stuff along.
It appeared to me when I went to look at the number of stars that the drier had been rated by others that it was no longer available. Fortunately I do not have a whole family's clothes to dry.

You clean the fluff filter after every use, but the condenser is a bigger box shaped thing that fits into a slot at the bottom of the machine. I've used the dryer balls but the noise they made drove me mad and I felt they didn't make that much difference.

digitallyremastered · 16/11/2018 14:39

I've ordered some dryer balls so will see.
Thanks about the different things to clean other than the main lint filter thing - very useful.
