Jersey bedding

I really like the idea of jersey bedding - you know the t shirt type material. But does it last okay? I'm worried it will eventually lose its shape a bit like how a t shirt does!

Anyone have any experience?

I bought sets for kids' beds back in the 90s and they were rubbish. After just one wash, the sheets wouldn't cover the sides of the mattresses. The duvet covers were OK but they weren't that hard wearing.

The sets I bought weren't very expensive - perhaps that's where I went wrong.

mrsoutnumbered · 13/11/2018 10:49

Thanks @Cynderella hmm well I'm not planning on spending a lot, I've seen some silent night sets in B&M and am desperate for new bedding but don't have much disposable income at the moment!

I have brushed cotton bedcovers from EBay not too expensive and lovely and cosy. I love new bedcovers, I have around 12 different sets Blush

if you're looking for bedding on a budget, Wilko have some really nice sets at a decent price (not jersey though). They wash well too.

PRIMARK
I bought a lovely set of jersey bedding about 6 months ago. So far it's washed well and is beautiful!!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 13/11/2018 18:24

GreenEggs- I think I bought the same Primarni set. Ours hasn't washed well at at- it's totally lost its shape and the pillowcases don't fit right anymore. Looks very untidy.

I was trying to bin them before DH noticed what I was doing and he insisted on keeping them as they're so cosy!

GreenEggsHamandChips · 13/11/2018 18:34

It was a single set and I sling the whole lot in the washing machine, duvet included, so I wonder if that makes a difference. It gets washed a fair bit as DS has Sn.

Aldi does great jersey bedding.

greyspottedgoose · 13/11/2018 18:41

I got a set in Asda, included the sheet, washes lovely

minipie · 13/11/2018 18:43

Brushed cotton is lovely and cosy (but don't wear brushed cotton pjs too as you'd get a slight velcro effect!)

Jersey IME goes thin and baggy very easily

Dragon3 · 13/11/2018 18:43

Our Primark jersey bedding has washed and dried well so far.

BikeRunSki · 13/11/2018 18:48

Aldi! It washes well, I have it for the DC.

Tomboytown · 13/11/2018 18:52

I got some lovely stuff in Dunelm

1984FS · 13/11/2018 19:22

We have the Asda jersey set and they are so cosy to start with, but the sheets especially have gone really bobbly, and we rotate 2 sets. I probably wouldn't get them again personally!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/11/2018 21:12

I bought some years ago ( I think it was Bed-In-A-Bag ) there's loads when the University terms start back.

It was 'ok', washed , tumble dried , no ironing. But like a cheapie TShirt it does go baggy and the seams twist (so it looks a bit shit basically)

mrsoutnumbered · 13/11/2018 22:05

Thanks everyone! Mixed reviews. I will face to ponder. 🤔

I have a jersey fitted sheet that I got from lidl. I like how it stays smooth and doesn't wrinkle up like a normal cotton one, but what I don't like is that it soaks up loads of water when you wash it and because it's heavy, it always unbalances the washer and stops it spinning properly.

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2018 22:44

I've had some. They were cosy and in good t-shirt type jersey. Got them from BHS years ago.

ElectricCandlelight · 14/11/2018 06:15

Just wanted to chuck tk maxx out there as a suggestion. I recently got a 300tc set for under 20 quid.

mrsoutnumbered · 14/11/2018 11:29

Thanks - Im in two minds about it now!

Aldi ones are ok for the price. Bought Aldi white/grey reindeer ones for DCs last winter and they're still fine this year.

MikeUniformMike · 16/11/2018 07:17

The Aldi ones look nice. I was tempted but have no current need for bedding.

beanaseireann · 17/11/2018 08:32

I bought Slouchy fitted jersey sheets in a posh department store in Dublin (Brown Thomas) which is an expensive brand of jersey bed linen. I've bought fitted jersey sheets from Lidl also. The Lidl sheets are a much thinner quality.. The Slouchy has lasted very well. However the duvet cover is a pita to iron and has gone out of shape - just like cotton tshirts do.
I love the texture of the fitted sheet - it's soft but if you like crisp bed linen it's not for you.
