Decent salt grinder - Boring question alert

We must have bought 10 or so salt grinders in the last 10-15 years and none of them have lasted.
Either they corrode (if metal) or just plain break (if plastic). I did get one that was a pre-filled grinder that seems to have lasted the time it takes to empty it but of course you can't refill it (and it might well only last another 1 refill).
What am I looking for? What have you found that works?
Of course we now have masses of pepper grinders too!

I have a Cole and Mason one, have you tried them?

TeddyIsaHe · 12/11/2018 12:04

Le Crueset everytime. Had mine for ages and still excellent. £30 roughly, but worth it!

QuantumGirl · 12/11/2018 12:10

Joseph and Joseph from John Lewis. They have the pouring side at the top and the grinder at the bottom no more mess 😊

HippyChickMama · 12/11/2018 12:12

We've still got a Cole and Mason set of salt and pepper grinders that we received as a wedding present in 2004!

Another vote for Cole and Mason here

We use Maldon salt crystals that you can rub between fingers. Nicer than other salt in as far as salt can be nice. No grinder needed.

Have not tried Cole and Mason but it looks like they win! Le Creuset things will go with our massive casserole so I'll have a look at that too.

The Cole and Mason ones have too many options! Oh dear!

Cole & Mason inverta flip - cleverly designed so the "dirty" end is on top. I broke one dropping it (perspex) but for the price they're going strong.

We've got one of these for pepper. It is fantastic, because you don't get little trails of pepper dust across the work top.

I think it would be fab for salt too, because you keep it upside down, the salt isn't touching the mechanism while you're not using it, so it can't corrode.

Ha - cross post with NotMeNoNo. We can't both be wrong!

NotMeNoNo · 12/11/2018 13:38

Haha yes it works great with Maldon sea salt.

drspouse · 12/11/2018 14:31

Thanks all - I see one of these in DH's future (he's the salt and pepper fanatic, I use it in cooking and he goes ahead and puts loads more on the food at the table while I glare silently at him).
