I have a new AEG dishwasher. What is your favourite/ the best detergent please?

I like fairy pods. I buy them on offer or from home bargains. I refuse to pay full price!

Cynderella · 07/11/2018 10:38

I use Aldi tablets, but when they're all gone, I plan to try Sainsburys Dishwasher Powder in order to reduce the single use plastic I bring into the house.

The Aldi tablets work very well.

ChoudeBruxelles · 07/11/2018 10:38

Aldi all in one tablets

ChoudeBruxelles · 07/11/2018 10:40

Cynderella I think Aldi do a powder. They do a liquid too (pretty sure)

mrsoutnumbered · 07/11/2018 11:33

I've heard great reviews of the Aldi tablets but have not tried them.

The Wilko eco ones are good, and so are the Astonish ones. I'm currently using ASDA ones which also work perfectly well although they smell a bit chemically.

I live in a really hard water area so have to use salt and rinse aid too.

mommybear1 · 07/11/2018 13:18

I was a die hard Finish fan but due to mat leave decided to try ALDI tablets as they had such good reviews - dreadful! I've now tried ASDA one brand - amazing every time highly recommend them.

e1y1 · 08/11/2018 13:57

Always either Finish or Fairy - never anything else, have tried one or two "own brands" and never been that thrilled; haven't tried all that many though, so if I hear amazing reviews in future, I may try another. Have been eyeing up Sainsbury's Powder now that Finish have discontinued theirs (although the new finish Gel liquid is very good - much better than when it was just Finish liquid).

And I'm in a very soft water area (to the point all my various dishwasher manuals have stated not to use salt at all).

Do use additional rinse aid though (whether I'm using a "3in1" or just standard detergent).

Fairy platinum are the best ones for me as I only ever use the quick-cycle.

I buy the 70-pack when it’s on offer in Tescos, usually for less than half price.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 09/11/2018 15:41

Lidl’s 3-in-1. We’ve tried Asda’s and really didn’t like the results.

Topseyt · 09/11/2018 15:45

Finish or Fairy tabs for me. I did try a lot of the supermarket own brands, but they definitely weren't as good so I gave up with them.

didireallysaythat · 09/11/2018 19:37

I use Tesco economy ones with rinse aid and salt (v hard water area) and they work as well as the ones that cost 5x the price (I only use the quick wash cycles)

Snowscreen · 09/11/2018 19:41

Tesco value £1.70 are good.

I just got Fairy ones on offer. (Same as Tesco value price)

I can see a difference, but not enough to justify an extra £60 a year.

When I lived in Austria, I always used Somat powder with rinse aid and salt which I love but it is expensive to buy here. I would love to try Aldi, Asda, Lidl and a few others but unfortunately I cannot buy them in the small island that I live on in the British Isles. We have Tesco, Co-op and a local shop which sells Waitrose products.

OP posts:
HarperTwo · 13/11/2018 11:01

Has anyone tried Co-op or Waitrose's brand?

OP posts:
JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/11/2018 18:18

Harper I’ve gried them both and I still prefer Lidl’s Smile

ozymandiusking · 13/11/2018 18:31

I have tried the Coop ones and I don't think they are very good at all.
Aldi's work well and are cheap.

HarperTwo · 14/11/2018 11:14

Thanks, so Coop is out and I cannot get Aldi here. So last possibility is Waitrose. Has anyone tried theirs?

OP posts:
mrsoutnumbered · 14/11/2018 11:26

I've used Waitrose cheap ones and they do the job just fine, but then all the cheapy ones work well for me since I started using salt and rinse aid separately.

HarperTwo · 25/11/2018 16:59

Thanks everyone! Since I will have to order online because I cannot get any that you recommended here, I found one that I loved when I lived in Austria which is Somat Klassik powder. I like powder because I like to be in control of the amount that I use. They no longer put phosphates in it because it is banned but after reading promising comments about it, I thought I would give it a try. I'll get back to you just in case anyone is interested.

I finally found something that I love. I really wanted Somat powder but could not find it online in GB. After a LOT of research, I did however find something that really works for me, Claro-Classic-XXL, 100 tabs that I bought from Amazon because I could not find it on my island. I also break the tab in half which is perfect for me and I always use rinse-aid and salt. What I love about it is there is no chalky residue and absolutely no scent as with so many top brands.

Aldi Classic for me with separate rinse aid and salt as I live in a hard water area.

Lidl's are very good too!
