Limescale in toilet

Hi I have limescale at the back of my toilet where it flushes. I've tried removing it with Cillett bang but It didn't work. can you tell me the best way of removing it without ruining the toilet?

We live in a chalky area and this has caused problems.

Thanks.

Something like Harpic 100% Limescale Remover Toilet Cleaner or whatever it's called will shift it if you leave it to work overnight. If you empty the bowl (use towels to soak up what you can't bale out), it'll be quicker.

Citric acid will work just as well and will definitely keep it at bay once you have got rid of what's there now.

The harpic toilet tablets are very good

Thanks for your reply, I have some Bloo loo but I think that won't work. So this stuff is really good?

Where do I get Citric acid?

Harpic limescale remover, then stick your hand down there and scrub off with the green scrubby side of a sponge. Very satisfying

Harpic and leave overnight before scrubbing

Vinegar

Processedpea · 02/11/2018 19:59

you need a small amount of something strong like harpic limescale remover BUT you do need to talk ALL the water out of the loo to clean it immaculately. use paper cups to do this.

I have to do this weekly with my look but it only needs a small amount of caustic stuff but you do need to empty out all the water

I Would do, but being disabled is a bit of a problem.

can you use a loo brush to push most of the water past the U bend, just remove as much as possible.

Cynderella · 02/11/2018 20:26

OK, so get out as much water as you can. Something like Harpic will work with water in but it might need several goes.

Citric acid is available from the likes of Amazon or ebay by the kilo. Wilkinsons used to sell tiny tubs for winemaking. Vinegar or bicarbonate of soda will work too but citric acid is most effective. It will also descale kettles, coffee makers etc. You can also use denture cleaning tablets.

All of these things work best if there's no limescale to start with, so if you would find it difficult to get down and dirty with baling and scrubbing, something like the Harpic would be your best bet.

It hurts to bend for even five minutes, so I'm hoping Harpic will work :)

The harpic tablets will do the job, no need to remove water. Just leave overnight
