Washing a sheepskin?

I have a double dyed sheepskin which is looking a bit dull and unloved. I've bought one of those special brushes, but it doesn't bring the shine back.

I've got the specialist sheepskin wash. I'm nervous. Hand wash in bath or washing machine? How do I dry ur? Will it smell? It's not actually dirty as such, it's been on the back of a sofa for two years so just dust and dog hair probably!

Hand wash cool programme in the washing machine with possibly a higher speed spin afterwards?

My advice would be don’t do it. I did it once and it took days to dry out properly and stank of death. It was overpowering and permeated the whole house.

I did it in the washing machine. Hand wash might be okay...

Unless is treated any high temperature water or agitation will cause the wool to felt and shrink. A delicates program on the washer should be fine, but if it's not that dirty I'd hand wash gently in cool water.

Dry it flat if you can to keep the shape.

Thanks All!

I might go for the hand wash, and washing machine spin. Is it worth popping on the washing line (whilst we have sun) then bringing inside to do the remaining dry flat?

I remember washing feather pillows once. Oh my gosh. The smell!!

I washed my wee one the other day- I did it with a delicate machine wash however don't put it in the sun to dry as it will make the skin harden. From google it should take at least 24h to dry. I would hang it wool side up in the shade to try to stop it hardening.

I gave mine a good brush and brushed it while using a warm hairdryer over it. Came up good as new.
