ok, i think i must be attracting a lot of dust. in my old flat, everything ussed to get realy dusty all the time, and i thought it was because i used to smoke, and burn inscence (sp?) and stuff. but now i've given up smoking, and moved to a new house, and the dust has FOLLOWED me! it doesn't seem to matter how much i dust, or polish, or wipe or clean, it's always there!!!!

It follows me as well. I'm ignoring it and hoping it'll go away. I hate attention seeking dust particles!!

think dusting pointless tbh - just rearranging the dust particles really!

You are not the only one, I get dust appearing on the floor which looks like something from G reat Expectations every day and I feel like it's a conspiracy designed to make me go mad. DH claims its just because we have 3 kids (and a cat but i am not blaming him as we've only had him since dec and the swirling dust has been driving me mad for years). DH says how terrible it would be if we still had carpets because we couldn't see it and they must have been filthy, but at least I didn't sweep constantly then. I sometimes feel like burning the house down. Would like to live on a narrow boat with minimum possessions instead! Seriously though our house is a badly designed 70s semi and I wonder if we have made matters worse by having cavity wall insulation could anyone offer an opinion on this? I do have windows open as much as possible, only draw the line at a daily 'air' when it is snowing!

Joe - i get dust in the bathroom. i mean, the bathroom fgs! if anywhere was going to get wet and clean then it would be the bathroom. but no, every morning i go in, and there is more dust on the side of the bath!!

i think there are dust elves designed to make us mental...

Mostly dead skin cells (in the bathroom, especially after energetic towelling, I read) and in ours, I'm sure it's also dust from the toilet paper.

Yes the bathroom always looks terribly dusty it seems to collect in the joints of newish PVC window frames, its not like we have done anything - actually you've given me an idea, ban DH and boys from rubbing themselves dry, they can just wander around in towels like me instead. DH even rubs himself with a flannel before getting out of the bath fgs, almost as bad as his tying crisp packets in a knot! He also seems to have this ability to leave shaving stubble sitting in the basin (shudder) does anyone else have a DH who doesn't have the time to turn on a tap to flush it away?, I guess he has the high powered job to rush out of the house for (although he takes longer then me to get washed and dressed) - I am just the skivvy to clean up after him (excuse rant). Do you think modern houses (post 1950) attract more dust I would have thought it would be the other way round. Or was I just unable to see the dust as a teenager, my children certainly don't understand why it drives me bonkers!

theUrbanDryad · 17/06/2007 14:49

joe - my dh also leaves stubble lying in the sink, and can't understand why it drives me insane! i keep thinking i'll leave fanjo/leg/armpit stubble in the bath last thing at night so he comes to it first thing in the morning, but he probably wouldn't even notice!

It's grim isn't it? I don't dust as such, I use a slightly damp cloth and wipe the dust off instead, rinsing under the tap periodically to get rid of the dirt. Using a conventional duster just wafts it about IMO.
