Mould in pram!

Hi everyone,

I had my first baby 3 years ago, we purchased a bugaboo chameleon in cream which was used for approx a year. It has since been in the garage, it's in pretty good condition however the bottom compartment has black mould on it. I'm due our 2nd baby in March so looking to reuse the pram.

I've found a pushchair cleaning company who will do it for approx £75 for a deep clean but I wondered if anyone had any advice for cleaning the mould off?

Unfortunately it's the basket so can't be removed.

Pretty sure the basket does come off. I'm sure I have put mine through the wash before (it was a few years ago!)

I would use vinegar on the mould. Sunlight will also be good for it. Black mould does stain though. So you may kill the spores and it will be perfectly healthy but will still have mould marks.

I believe that black mould has spores which are difficult to fully remove and would be a concern for me

Either pay a professional company to do it or replace would be my options

I don't know the pram you mention, but personally I would try:

  1. Sprinkle well with bicarbonate of soda, leave overnight, then hoover well
  2. Repeat
  3. Make a solution of Dettol Laundry Cleanser and wash down
  4. Repeat as many times as necessary with clean solution and then allow to dry thoroughly.

I would also clean the area above the basket, and let another adult do all this for you because of increased health concerns during pregnancy, (otherwise use a mask and gloves).

If in any doubt, let the professional cleaning company do it. It's impossible to say without seeing the problem, but it might be money well spent.

All the best with your pregnancy and baby, OP. Flowers

If it's only the basket then that's not too bad. I would give it a good rub with a cloth soaked in something bug-killing, as pp said a laundry cleanser or you could use disinfectant. Then give it a good airing.

When I clean my buggy I usually wash it with a cloth soaked in soapy water (washing up liquid or bio laundry detergent) and then give it a spray with the Dettol aerosol spray. I personally think that £75 is too much money for something you can do yourself. What method do they use to deep clean it?
