brand new wool carpet - blu tack walked into it!

anyone,, any ideas?
I thought it was chewing gum, and have just washed the carpet in a larger area than the blu tack, as its a heavy tread area so got a bit grubby. Its come up beautifully, but I had to revisit the suspect area, only to discover its blu tack, and I've literally just been picking and picking at it, but i am worried about damaging the pile.

help!?

I've just read that you should dip a cotton bud in olive oil and gently rub this over the blue tac.
Or there is a product which Lakeland and other places (The Range) sell called sticky stuff remover.
I've used that to remove glue from upholstery fabric and it works very well. Lasts for ages too.

You could try ice cubes to freeze it, or I think you can get freezing spray. Maybe it will then crumble off like chewing gum does in the freezer? And no harm done if it doesn't work because it was only ice?

BunloafAndCrumpets · 05/10/2018 16:08

Ahh be careful with the sticky stuff remover on carpet. I used it, and the carpet became unstuck from its backing! Turns out it's very very effective 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh blimey! Thanks bun I'd rather leave it in there than risk damaging the pile. I'd end up with a hole in it.

I'd thought about the freezing, like with chewing gu.,but didn't know if it would work well with blutack. Have you done that happy? You say, should work like gum? I am thinking it can't do any harm can it?

We had a similar issue with blue tack as my daughter thought it would be fun to make 'blue tack slime' leaving little blobs of blue tack in her wake. DH eventually got them out with some WD40 and a cloth.

smotheroffive · 05/10/2018 20:48

Wd40?...so is this easy to remove from carpet.

Use the ice cubes. I’m sure we used this at school.

Tempted, altho school carpet unlikely to be wool and probs easier to get stuff off platic fibres? I don't see how it can harm?

Wool is very resilient. Options are to

  • freeze it by sitting an ice pack on for an hour and then picking it off.
  • use another piece of blu tack to dab it off
  • last resort cotton bud and vegetable oil then swab with detergent

Cherry and others about freezing... i wondered about whether blutack actually freezes, so put some in the freezer...it doesn't.
going to try with some more blutack
thanks

Have you got any scraps of the carpet left over?

You could replicate the bluetack and try a few ways to get it off. Then if it wrecks the piece it doesn't matter.

smotheroffive · 11/10/2018 18:57

Thank you Holiday excellent idea, and I think I may have a piece that I can cut a small bit from on the floor of my understairs cupboard!
