Lakeland Heated Airer

I've heard many mumsnetters rave about these but up until now have had a tumble dryer so they passed me by....

Now we are going away for an extended period over the winter where one will be perfect Grin.

What size do I need? We are a family of 4, two tweens (so not masses of washing). Likely to be used to dry 4 coats and gloves on wet days.....

2 tier/3 tier???

I'm unlikely to use it beyond next June so....

Oooh I've been looking at one of these for a while. I'd also like to know what's good.

mrsfee · 27/09/2018 16:39

I have a three tier standard and it's one of my favourite purchases! I can easily dry a load of washing overnight, two if there's a king sized duvet cover in one that I can draped over the top. I have the cover also as that makes it more efficient. Get the biggest and best you can, you'll not regret it!

Somertime · 27/09/2018 18:06

How long does it take to dry a load? Where do people put them so they aren't in the way?

ifiwasabutterfly · 27/09/2018 18:09

I bought one and took it back after a week. It took up so much room and I didn't find it that great. It was fab if you laid the clothes over it so about 4 things, but if you put a whole load on it, it dries the bit over the line quickly and the rest was still damp. Maybe I did it wrong ConfusedBlush

I have a 3 tier deluxe with a cover. It's great! I would definitely get a 3 tier rather than a 2.

SausageOnAFork · 27/09/2018 18:15

What happens though if stuff is dry? I’d worry about dry things getting over heated.

sue51 · 27/09/2018 18:16

Just noticed qvc have one on easy pay.

tickingthebox · 27/09/2018 20:51

@EggMayonnaise & @mrsfee so basically I should be buying this one? www.lakeland.co.uk/25891/Dry%3ASoon-Deluxe-3-Tier-Heated-Airer-and-Full-Accessories-Offer

Goodness me yes!!

I just have the airer and cover, and am happy with that, but the mesh things and pegs make it so much more versatile. And castors to move it...jealous!!

tickingthebox · 27/09/2018 20:58

...Now the side bar is just showing me loads of heated airers!!!

I really don’t like it. I’ve been in to speak to them to ask if I’m doing it wrong. Apparently I’m not.

Takes a good 15 hours to dry a load (6p an hour so probably the same as a tumble dry) leaves things damp and musty smelling. I have the cover,’lay things over the bars, not hanging down, so as much is in contact with the heated bars.

It IS good for when you bring the washing in off the line and it needs an air.

SausageOnAFork · 27/09/2018 21:05

Well that’s what I’ve thought OohFor. 6p an hour is only good if it’s quick. If it takes 5 hours then it’s no better than a tumble dryer.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 27/09/2018 21:26

I love mine. I have the 3 tier and a cover. I always make sure I there is an open window in the room. I leave it for 6-8 hours I think and everything is bone dry. It's a million times better than our old washer dryer. And I don't have to worry about non-tumble drying clothes or things shrinking.
