It must use tap water, have great steam and be the style you can press an anti calc button to get rid of timescale over the sink. I don't want to leave bits to soak or replace filters. Thanks.

I have a Braun one. They make fabulous irons. I bought it from John Lewis. The anticalc is underneath the steam setting button and you remove it and run under the tap.

I live in a hard water area and have a Philips iron. I don't think it's got an anti calc button but I've had it 5 years and no problems with limescale. I use tap water and have never descaled it

Honestly, I'd use deionised water

this.

I think the "ironing water" you can buy is the same stuff with artificial perfumes added.

It's very cheap if you buy big bottles from places that sell car maintenance stuff, including the car polish shelf in the supermarket. It's used for topping up car batteries.

Though Tesco (see above) is cheaper thanHalfords

I have a Tefal steam generator. Water here is very hard.

I buy distilled water and dilute 50/50 with tap water. I learned the hard way that using tap water shortens the life of an iron.

The manual recommends tap water unless it's very hard, and only then to use diluted distilled water. Ironing water can't be used.

I used to use the water from the dehumidifier, and suppose I ought to start doing that again.

I have a Tefal at the moment, which is less than two years old and covering clothes with limescale / stains. I have had good irons previously from Rowenta and more recently Bosch. PigletJohn, I think you may be right, I may have to use deionised water.

Well I've just bought a Philips Azur Pro 4881/20 from John Lewis as i can collect it from Waitrose tomorrow. It appears to have a calc button. It gets good reviews and with JL extended guarantee I will have 4 years use for less than £75 (cheaper than Argos). Hope it is better than the Tefal. Next time I might get a steam generator but we tend to iron in small batches so don't think that will be the best option for now.
