Removing smell of old urine?

From a sofa - elderly disabled relative. It wasn't cleaned at the time as no one knew so it dried in. Tried washing up liquid and fabreeze so far to no effect.

It's an expensive fabric sofa so nothing that would bleach it.

Dettol laundry cleanser, very well diluted?

Try one of the enzyme cleaners you get for animal urine as it will break down the odour molecules. Find them in the pet shop

This worked on our carpet (cat pee):

Soak with 50/50 hot water and vinegar. It needs to saturate.

Leave for an hour or so and vacuum up with carpet cleaner or soak up with towels.

Sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda.

Spray with hydrogen peroxide that has been mixed with a squirt of washing up liquid. Scrub into fabric/carpet and leave over night.

Brush and vacuum.

I imagine the stuff you get from pet shops has similar ingredients, but it didn't work for us. We found the above method online and it did work. Essentially, you have to neutralise before you can clean. Hydrogen peroxide bleaches so you'd need to test before trying it.

I was also going to mention Bicarbonate of Soda. Sprinkle on. Leave overnight. Vacuum off thoroughly. Repeat if necessary. Then try the Dettol. I would patch test everything first in a less conspicuous area.

Biozet - has the enzymes. Make it up in a spray bottle and spray it on first. That was enough for cat wee on my sofa. You might need more for an adult-sized wee.
I was absolutely amazed. It worked in just one application; the smell was completely gone the next morning.

We’ve got a room in our house that has been previously inhabited by a bed wetter.

Any tips for improving the smell faster than daily airing?

We’ve removed all the possibly tainted furniture.
