Where did you get it from?

What is it like (think I fancy a white gloss one but not sure)

What have you chosen for flooring/worktops/colours etc

How much did you pay for fitting?

I thank you!

Well 5 yrs ago I did MFI wood with dark/black worktop

This year I got matt white (cheap) Ikea and Birch Worktop

I was much more pleased with the second than I was with the first

alibobins · 10/06/2007 19:18

I'm having one fitted in two weeks.

I'm having a white gloss one from focus its called oslo and i'm copying the picture from the book.

Its got black worktop and floor and the walls are berry wine.

Not paying for fitting has i've got a very tallented dh and fil and my dads a plumber.

I like ikea but worried about fitting, have heard that they arent standard units so dont fit in with existing pipes?

Katymac, what's it like buying kitchens from Ikea? Do they deliver or do you have to collect it all from the store? Do they actually have everything in stock - whenever I've tried to buy other large items from Ikea, there's always one part of the package that's not available, drives me mad. But their kitchens do look nice...

hairycaterpillar · 10/06/2007 19:29

kitchens

We're thinking of replacing ours as about 20yrs old and is falling to bits...in some places its held together with sellotape . We are looking at getting the Hexham oak one and a dark worksurface from above company and a joiner is fitting it for us.

Had a white kitchen in last house and was a nightmare to keep clean!

hairycaterpillar · 10/06/2007 19:32

...actually i think its the tewekesbury oak one we're getting!

BreeVanDerCamp · 10/06/2007 19:33

At the risk of asking daft questions, will it go all the way up to the ceiling ??

VoluptuaGoodshag · 10/06/2007 19:36

Got an Ikea one. I designed it myself using their downloadable software. Went for the Stat white plus birch worktops and a double belfast type sink. It looks and is wonderful. I got it fitted for a song £600 by a local joiner. Got floor tiles from B&Q and wall tiles from Topps. Would have no hesitation in using Ikea again and yes they delivered it all. Only problem was they forgot the hinges for the doors so it meant a trip for me to go to the store to get them but that was all really.

Katymac · 10/06/2007 19:40

I bought 18 cupboards & I had to go back for 2 doors only - I thought that was pretty good

MFI were no better

nannynick · 10/06/2007 19:41

Kitchen made by Howdens Joinery obtained via my builder who was contracted to supply and fit kitchen and bathroom.

White - not too glossy. Range name is Greenwich White

Flooring: Slate effect 12" x 17 3/4" tiles
Worktup: Royal Granite (I think)

Not sure about fitting cost, was all done as a kitchen/bathroom refit.

BellaBear · 10/06/2007 19:45

I've just had mine done, doors are painted MDF, surface is beech, floor is fake slate, walls are white. picture in my profile for you. I adore it!

ratclare · 11/06/2007 17:02

i bought ours from wickes ,gloss white one , i would say that it is still in a state of semi fittedness as we are fitting it ourselves ! the units are very good quality ,much thicker than magnet ,and the backs are solid ,not that flexi rubbish. It cost about £1800 for a largisg kitchen and we got a free intergrated dishwashe r. the good thing about their delivery is ,that when they deliver everything is packed individually ,and if when you unpack a bit ,its damaged you just ring a number and they deliver that bit to you ,no having to go back to the shop. If you want someone else to fit it i would expect you would pay at least £1500 and id start looking now for a fitter

fizzylemonade · 11/06/2007 17:53

I've had an MFI one, my sister had a beautiful ikea one, no problems with it. Some fitters don't like fitting the ikea ones because unlike other units they don't have the space behind them for utilities but any fitter worth his salt can cope with that. It does mean that you get deeper cupboards.

My sister had the cream Adel with solid wood worktops. It looks fantastic. In the next house we buy we want the white Adel with solid oak worktops She paid £700 for fitting and I paid £1200 for MFI Ikea have their own fitters but I have no idea how much they charge.

Main thing is in any room, no more than 3 colours and try not to fit wooden flooring etc if you have wooden cabinets.

Remember that white gloss will show all grease and any dust stuck to it plus sticky finger prints.

My mum is emptying the wall units - then putting up new ones (and more than before) - then filling the new cupboards and empting the base units and then replacing them

So not too much stuff lying around for weeks on end (my dad is fitting it himself)

nickytwotimes · 11/06/2007 19:24

we got a cream coloured b&q one along with beech effect laminate, wooden handles and beech flooring - we are poor, ok?!
it has been great. we fitted it ourselves - piece of cake thanks to bil who is very handy. my only advice is get something plain so it doesn't gather dust.

KTeePee · 13/06/2007 07:43

fizzylemonade - what colour walls does your sister have? I've had the cream Adel put in recently, walls are painted white at the moment as plaster is new but I'm not sure it looks exactly right.... thinking of repainting at some stage.

Question for nannynick (and anyone else with a Howdens Greenwich kitchen). We're looking at the Greenwich Cream (just out), which looks very reasonably priced. Just wondering have the Greenwich doors worn well? I was looking at the doors today and was just a bit worried about the seams round the front corners - do they hold together well? Thanks very much.
