Old baby clothes

I’m trying to sort old baby clothes. Some can go to a specialist charity shop near me, some can go to a friend.
I’m struggling with old sleepsuits and vests which I think the charity shop won’t want. It’s making me feel really sad to put them to recycling.

Did you keep any special baby clothes, first outfits? I can’t think why I would, but feel awful about getting rid of them, but we don’t have space!

We’re not going to have more babies, they’re not special like a christening gown to be passed down. What’s wrong with me?!?

If the charity shop doesn't think they will sell they send them for recycling so the fabric gets reused.

We kept one of each of our daughters’ first sleep suits. Ones that we could remember them wearing, so that they could get an idea of how small they were. First proper shoes for the same reason.
Everything else has been passed on.

Offer them on a local facebook site - someone would be glad of them.

There isn't anything wrong with you, all these clothes are still strongly attached to memories of your babies.
Eventually you have to detach yourself and think about it rationally.
I have still got a blanket used by all my children which I keep in a drawer. The youngest is 23!

You can get them made into patchwork blankets. It can be expensive but they look nice. I've also seen toys made that can be weighted to the baby's birth weight.

Offer them to a womens refuge. They are often desperate for things like this .

Moody123 · 14/09/2018 07:47

Women's refuge and Salvation Army maybe?

mrsoutnumbered · 14/09/2018 07:56

I was going to suggest women's refuge. Otherwise Freecycle? Or a local babybank?

Coldhandscoldheart · 14/09/2018 19:03

Thank you. I did a bit of a google as well, and found lots of people seem to have the same problem and some people keep all their baby things! For years! I need to sort a bit more, but will phone the refuge.

You can have them made into blankets. Also I spoke to my hv the other day as I have a lot and she recommended somewhere local to me that distributes them locally to families in need so it could be worth looking if you have anywhere like that.
