Help me get orange food stains out baby clothes

OnNaturesCourse · 12/09/2018 15:33

For some reason every baby jar food, snack or drink stains clothes - I think there's a deal between baby food producers and baby clothes companies... 😂

Any hints on getting the stains out?

I've tried soaking, vanish etc but no luck and I'm tried of nice things getting ruined.

Sunshine :)

ABitCrapper · 12/09/2018 15:34

Or at least daylight when damp. Got to be damp though

OnNaturesCourse · 12/09/2018 15:35

Just put the clothes in sunlight? Is it that simple... 😂

The bar of soap vanish is the only product I've found to work, then sunshine...

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/09/2018 16:15

Vanish foam carpet cleaner in the big pink can.

OnNaturesCourse · 12/09/2018 17:02

Carpet cleaner?

I've tried sofa cleaner 😂 will drying in the sunlight help?

Sunshine - works particularly well on orange and red based stains.

Noniks3 · 12/09/2018 21:19

Fairy platinum washing up liquid.
Best thing I’ve found to tackle orange staining. Even shifted Spag Bol puke on a beige carpet

OnNaturesCourse · 13/09/2018 09:48

Oh wow... I'll look at getting that too. Spag bol is a favourite in this house.

Can everyone who's saying sunshine stop saying just sunshine and be more specific. Do you wash first and then hang on a line in the sunshine or do you put the garment outside in sunshine while it's still dry?

ABitCrapper · 13/09/2018 19:20

Just wash then hang up in the daylight while damp. Needs to be damp. Sun not required but it may need to be out all day or even several days if it's full out.

Fairy liquid... must be the green one it platinum.... rubbed in vigorously

For all stains I stick the clothes in a washing up bowl, the granule vanish and then boiling hot water on it. It foams up and then dies down. Stir it with a wooden spoon to dissolve all the granules and then just leave it for a while, stirring occasionally to agitate the clothes a bit.

Then just wash it as normal, it always works! Probably some sort of bad chemical reaction between the vanish and the hot water but no disasters yet!

Napisan is also quite good if you stick it in the wash and then line dry in the sunshine like others have said. The sunshine works with the bleach in the napisan and brings out the brightness (great for white bed linen too!)

OnNaturesCourse · 13/09/2018 22:48

It actually worked. Hung the item next to window and it was enough to lift the stain - it's still there but only just.. I love MN 😂

Napisan

InterstellarSleepingElla · 14/09/2018 13:32

Ah beaten to it with Sunshine - it is amazing on stains!

OnNaturesCourse · 14/09/2018 16:53

So does everyone wash and then hang to dry in the sun? Or put in the sun as soon as the stain is there? Or...?

OP posts:
ABitCrapper · 14/09/2018 20:30

Of course it worked! How dare you doubt me?! Grin

Sunshine also gets poo stains out (we use washable nappies and wipes) especially newborn poo that you think will never go - it actually disappears with no trace in daylight.

So wash, hang out to dry on line in daylight. Leave on line until stain gone. If item dries before the stain goes re-damp stain :)

Waterlemon · 14/09/2018 20:44

Napisan! As other posters have said or washing soda.

Either soak or put into the wash.

Be careful with organic stains, often hot water “sets” them, best to use tepid/cold water to wash out most of the stain first.

ABitCrapper · 14/09/2018 21:19

Napisan can destroy elastic though. I never use it on my nappies as it just trashes them unless they are traditional cotton squares

winterwonderly · 14/09/2018 21:26

I've recently found that a spray of white vinegar, rub in some washing up liquid and leave it for a little while before washing as normal works a treat.
