I'm sure this has been done to death but I can't find any threads on it in the search and I need help!!! My DS has a tendency to be a bit away with the fairies and so in the first week and a bit of school has managed to draw on the front of his new cotton shirts. I have tried vanish and soaking in washing up liquid but no luck. What can I do??
Thankyou in advance!

If its a white shirt I would rub in a bit of milton - I have had to do it many a time.

Do a spot test first. Some clothing may react poorly to rubbing alcohol, or white vinegar. Test the cleaning product you're using on a small patch of the clothing and wait about an hour. If the patch of clothing does not appear discolored or damaged, it is safe to use that substance to remove the stain

1
Place the stained clothing on top of a towel. Get a clean absorbent towel. Lay it down on a flat surface. Place the stained clothing over the towel

Dab the stain with rubbing alcohol. Dab a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a clean sponge. Then, dab the sponge on the stain. Use gentle blotting motions. Rubbing the stain could cause it to smear. Blot at the stain until it has faded

3
Fill a sink with water and vinegar. Use warm water to fill the sink. Then, add a cup of white vinegar. Mix it into the water using your hands or a spoon

4
Soak the clothing. Place the garment in the sink. You should leave the garment in the sink for about 15 minutes. After this point, the stain should be gone

5
Wash the clothing in the laundry as usual. Once the stain is gone, you can wash the garment in the laundry as usual. This should remove the vinegar and rubbing alcohol

Thankyou so much! Where can I buy rubbing alcohol? Trying to find if I have any Milton left. It's a long time since I had to sterilise something! I swear my youngest DS is an actual magnet to dirt! He managed to get cat poo on the TOP of his trainers the other day!

You can use vodka or any other strong white spirit instead of rubbing alcohol, you just might have to use a drop more

ineedteanownotlater · 11/09/2018 17:41

If it's a white t-shirt I just bleach them

GreenTulips · 11/09/2018 17:42

You don't - it's normal and acceptable at school.

rubbing alcohol:

This might sound bonkers but try scrubbing it with milk. The child sitting behind her once drew all over DD cardigan, pretty sure thats what I used to get it out, after much googling.

Hairspray

jurrasicgirl · 11/09/2018 17:55

I had heard that vodka would work but I'm not sure I can bring myself to use it for that! Have tried hairspray and bleach. The irony is I'm a teacher and I always use whiteboard pens with my class!!!

Haha it's white board pen. It doesn't come out, make sure you buy cheep cotton t-shirts. Try bleaching you may fade it a bit, other then that send him in wearing them until they are truly unusable.

Just wait until they get it on there jumpers.

Even my friends laundry obsessed DH hasn't managed to remove these stains.

RandomMess · 11/09/2018 18:00

Only thing that works is Dr Beckmann ink remover but only when it's a new stain once washed/treated nothing does I'm afraid.

TheFairyCaravan · 11/09/2018 18:06

Hairspray is what you need.

DS1(23) had a tattoo done a few weeks back. Between him and the artist they somehow managed to cover the front of his expensive white t-shirt in ink. The man said it wouldn’t come out but DS1 said ‘my mum will have a damn good try!’

I was away at the time so a few days later I sprayed the front with cheap Aldi hairspray and washed as normal. There’s not a speck of ink on that shirt now.
