Time to admit I’m really untidy

And I want it to change but don’t know where to start or what to do Blush

My partner of 2 years has left me because he’s at his wits end with it, I just don’t have any motivation to do it ever and I don’t know why Sad

Unfortunately as I have toddlers, dogs and cats I’m going to have to pull myself together and really make an effort

Is there any tips on how to become more clean/tidy? Generally I’m organised and we recently dealt with my hoarding issues thanks to a skip

But when it comes to things like hoovering/washing pots/putting stuff away/dusting I’m ashamed to admit I very rarely do it and it all builds up on me. I also tend to be one of those people that piles things on chairs or on top of each other Blush I’d seriously appreciate any advice, thank you

Come and join us on the organised mum thread. It is making a massive difference for lots of us.

Have a look at Mrs Hinch on instagram for cleaning inspiration. I hate cleaning too but for some reason after watching her stories I've been out today and bought a load of stuff she uses and I've just finished cleaning my washing machine at 10 p.m. it feels like I've been hypnotised.

Declutter
Declutter
Declutter

LOADS

Then it will be a whole lot easier.
Less stuff, less mess.

The only way I found to stay on top of it was to get rid of most of it.

We are a family of four. We have four plates/four bowls/four glasses etc. A bath sheet and bath towel each. Two sets of linen per bed.

Games and jigsaws with bits mising went. Broken toys went. Macdonalds/party bag toys are kept for a day. They only got forgotten in a drawer or under the sofa anyways.

Less stuff, less to sort.

Each morning a load of laundry goes on. When I get in from work it goes on the line. Before bed its brought in and put in the right room (not away). Once or twice a week id put it all away in one go.

I watch Youtube cleaning videos for motivation. I find podcasts I enjoy listening to and save them for when Im doing housework.

Buy a basket for the living room. Every evening once the little one is in bed, anything that needs putting away in their room goes into the basket. In the morning before getting them out of the cot, go in and chatter to them while putting the basket of stuff away.

Ditch lots as mentioned. its then far faster to do everything. far easier to put away etc

For you i would get four pages set up on computer or by hand (computer easier to alter). Divide household jobs into daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.

The daily and weekly ones you can allocate a time or particular day. Such as:

Daily:
Beds made - as soon as out of bed
quick clean shower - as soon as out of shower, whilst still in towel
Washing basket sorted and washing load on if needed - before breakfast

Weekly:
Monday : Hoover downstairs -
Tuesday: Change and wash childrens bedding
Wednesday: clean kitchen
Thursday: hoover upstairs, wash dogs bedding
Friday: clean bathroom
Saturday : washing your bedding

From that list, tuesday, thursday and saturday would be washing for bedding, and the days in between clothes washes. So max 1 wash per day. If toddlers in small beds still, you might have space to throw in towel/ kids pjs with their bedding also

Then monthly, would be things that need doing but not so often. you can pick at date to make easier to remember. Maybe do this twice in a month so only need to do one thing at a time. This would be things like deep clean oven, fridge, pull out furniture, clean windows, sort kids clothes etc.

@MrsHoodwink can I recommend you the blog A Slob Comes Clean. Very down to earth, all about starting where you're at and cutting yourself some slack. I think it could help - you don't need a big list of things to achieve just now, you need to be kind to yourself and begin at the beginning with one habit at a time.

mammy0f0ne · 12/09/2018 15:15

Hey hun, I feel you. I'm literally the laziest person ever.

I've been watching Mrs Hinch loads and I'm literally hooked. My MIL had my DS for a couple of hours this morning and I've cleaned every part of my living room.

Honestly the smells so good.

But Usually I'm like you. My partner regularly get annoyed with me because he does more house keeping than I do. But once I started today I just couldn't stop!

I hope you find your motivation. I know it's hard but it will come.

yorkiepudsnutellaandicecream · 12/09/2018 19:54

I'm an untidy person too, my partner gets annoyed because the house is messy (he has a cheek as he does nothing to contribute to tidying), I also have 2 toddlers to throw into the mix to add to my untidiness.

HOWEVER... I have been watching Mrs Hinch and the Organised Mums Instagram stories daily and find myself ready to get up and do it. NEVER has watching someone clean a sink been so motivational!!

Give it a try. Sending love and magical cleaning fairy vibes your way xxx
