Cordless vacuum cleaners versus robots

Anyone have a really good cordless or robot vacuum cleaner you can recommend please?

Dsis has a cordless Hoover which she swears by. I've had a test drive of a dyson but I'm not sure about the price and whether it's too heavy.

I've also had my eye on a robot vacuum for some time and I'm just not sure which way to go. Any advice will be v welcome. Thanks.

I have a robot, it is good because we are out the of the house every weekday so it can do the main areas daily. It is not a powerful vacuum but it works well because it hoovers so frequently. We don't set it off very often when we are in the house because it is slow and rather infuriating to watch although I have thrown it in rooms I have finished tidying whilst I move on to the next. I don't care how handy a vacuum I am not hoovering daily once the initial novelty has worn off.

I do have a handheld vacuum but it is an older dyson so not as powerful as the current ones. I use it for skirting, picture rails fireplaces and focal mess.

Thanks@Lucked I must admit I'm very tempted.

Do you mind me asking did you go for an expensive one? Prices seem to vary from £250 to £800 and I don't know anyone who owns one in RL to ask.

I have a roomba, I paid £240 with an apparent £160 discount on a prime day deal. I don't have pets but do have long hair which gets wrapped around the rollers but it is so light to turn upside down on the counter so much easier to clean than my actual hoover.

We have the cheaper option - a Eufy. A few months on, we're happy with -her- it.

-She- It is programmed to go round downstairs every night and we set her off either upstairs or downstairs most days - usually late afternoons/evenings.

You do have to accommodate -her- its needs. If there is a flex or tight corner, -she- it will get stuck and bleep until rescued. If my toddler granddaughter witnesses this, she drags one of us to rescue and release.

Thanks both I think I will go for it. DH isn’t convinced but tbh it’s isn’t usually me that picks up the hoover at the moment.. hence my preference for the robot.

Get a Dyson v10. I am waiting for payday but enough people rave about them to convince me they are worth the big money upfront. I had another cordless years back and loved it but it quickly burned out. I'm willing to trust a Dyson won't.

I really want a robot one. My friend has one and I'm very envious, even though she says that you still need to occasionally do the corners of rooms.

I’ve had a Dyson cordless ( now my main handheld) and I’ve currently got a Bosch athlet upstairs which is excellent and much better than a dyson but a pain for using any tools and a Shark duo clean cordless for downstairs which is also very good . A robot vacuum would upset my dog as he’s not keen on vacuums despite living in a house with an abundance of them .

RubyFlint · 09/09/2018 17:21

Oops obvs I meant it is usually me who vacuums.

Ideally I’d like both robot and a cordless. The cordless for deep cleaning.

I currently have a Dyson animal which I was given about 6 years ago. It’s good but it’s just sooo heavy and a pain to carry up and down stairs. So I’m ready for a change. Smile

I have a Eufy - £150 on a Prime deal. I decided to go relatively cheap and cheerful as this was an experiment and I didn't want to pay the price of a Roomba, or a cordless vacuum, so this seemed the ideal compromise.

I have been very pleased with it, because I set it off most days it keeps the house much cleaner than waiting for me to get out my big, heavy Dyson (have two dogs, so constant dog hair is an issue).

Although you have to empty it regularly, and untangle long hair from its rollers, it is pretty effective, though as a previous poster has mentioned, somewhat irritating to watch because of its random pattern of travel, but it covers everywhere in the end.

It is essential to move trailing flexes otherwise its gets stuck, but it is pretty good at negotiating furniture etc.

Thanks rabbits I’m looking at a Eufy too.

We're using the Roomba as well, I believe they have good discounts for black friday in the next few weeks. It does good cleaning since it has powerful suction. I found this page . I hope it can help. :) I just feel that it's quite noisy, you can't run it when your baby is sleeping.

I have an Eufy, I don’t watch it, i it it on when I am elsewhere in the house. I think it is ok, but I still feel I need to do a “proper” vacuum about once a week or so.
