Bath Store toilet seats.

Just replaced a Bathstore Denver toilet seat which closes softly. I want to keep the seat looking good as the last one looked dingy after awhile. The installation instructions say do not use any corrosive cleaners and only to use water and soap. I had used Dettol Power Wipes before and as these seats are £50 each I don’t want to spoil them especially as I bought an extra one for the second toilet. The only thing I can think of which is soapy is washing up liquid but wonder if this is going to work. Has anyone got any idea? I would of course continue to use toilet cleaner and wipes for the actual toilet. Be grateful for any input.

Why do you think soapy water won't work? Most cleaning can be done very effectively with hot soapy water. Washing up liquid or a mild cleaner like Stardrops Original will work fine. Wipes aren't very eco friendly as they contain plastic, take years to biodegrade and shouldn't be flushed whatever the packaging states.

Thank you wowfudge that is really reassuring. I haven’t come across Stardrops Original but will look for that. Those power wipes have never been flushed as I am really careful about what goes down the toilet. I don’t even use that thick toilet paper. I suppose I was concerned that just soapy water would not eliminate germs! Also every bathroom product you look at shows a gleaming white toilet seat. Just have to change my way of cleaning. Thank you for replying.

Get your rubber gloves on and you can use really hot water. The only thing I do with bleach is put a little down the loo every couple of weeks. I did try those Dettol wipes as a short cut (thrown away afterwards) but didn't like the fact they left a lot of fairly unpleasantly scented foam everywhere. They're also not thick enough so end up balled up very quickly.

Hot soapy water here for a proper clean. In between, spray with diluted vinegar and wipe with old dishcloth. Dishcloths go into washing machine on a hot wash.

I have a bag of rags (cut from clothes, cloths, sheets etc too scrappy to give to charity) for single use jobs such as decorating or blacking the fireplaces. I would use those with disinfectant if there wss any illness in family.

Thank you so much. I now keep washing up liquid in the bathroom and a jcloth. Every morning run some hot water with fairy in it and put toilet cleaner down the pan. Then I wash merrily away.
