Cleaning a double panel radiator - how?

How do you do it? It's full of fluff and awfulness but I can't see how to get a duster down there as the gaps are so small!

Oh my word! I've bought one and feel I could be on the brink of greatness. Grin

Here's another question. How do people paint double radiators? Surely you can't get the paint down inside?

No, no, I know about long handled rollers! I mean, how do you paint in and out of the internal fins? Presumably if someone is matching a radiator to their wall colour they don’t just paint the front, it would look awful from above?

If you go to people's houses and look down radiators it often looks awful from above! I know mine do. You just have to accept that as an adult you've just spent 20+ years not looking down the back of people's radiators, most people don't do it and it isn't a big deal!

Having said that I do have a radiator brush and I do love cleaning behind my radiators even if the paint behind their looks crap.

StealthNinjaMum · 30/08/2018 10:26

there not their! Autocorrect!

never paint radiators, it always looks awful. If a plain white one won't do it, buy a pre-painted one.

I saw a video of someone using a hairdryer to blast the fluff and dust out of their radiator. I might try it, but only with a mask on. 😷

I'm now feeling a bit dispirited about my radiators. I'd like a new column one, but they're really expensive.

Can you spray paint them?

StoatOfManyColours · 31/08/2018 09:46

Well, my radiator brush has arrived, exciting times. Grin It definitely gets out the majority of fluff and dust, but the act of pulling the brush back up again means that some stays in. May try the hairdryer for any remnants.

I'm presuming for spraying that they need to be sent away somewhere, would that be right?

I think the way forward could be to just buy a new column radiator in white, we're getting the flooring done so it makes sense to replace the radiator now rather than later.

For your radiator brush, push it down and then vacuum the brush as it comes out at the bottom - I was amazed at the crap that came out when I blitzed them when I moved in reminds me I've not done them since

ChishandFips33 · 31/08/2018 22:12

Spraying...I'm guessing you can get an aerosol made up at B&Q??

StoatOfManyColours · 01/09/2018 08:14

Really? You can get bespoke aerosols?! Possible game changer!

If your DIY store doesn't do aerosols then try a motor factors. They mix aerosols for cars all the time

Bambooshoots14 · 02/09/2018 12:34

Definitely replace now as it’s a pain to do later, and they make such a difference to the room 😊
