Housework routine

Can someone please recommend theirs or point me to a housework routine so I don't spend the next bank holiday tidying up 6 months worth of mess?!!

Tried flylady and couldn't stand the reminders or the tone of their language so binned that approach promptly.

Can anyone recommend a routine that will save my sanity?

I was going to recommend TOMM too; I follow it loosely (I do more than is necessary because I'm a bit of a cleaning/housework freak) but it's really good if you're strapped for time and the FB group is really nice & helpful.

TOMM is basically a simpler version of flylady, it's definitely effective at keeping on top of it. I'd recommend it too.

Definitely TOMM! Very simple and you can always tweak. I do my halls and stairs on Mondays with the living room, and do bathrooms on Wednesdays instead. There's no way I want to clean my bathrooms every day!

I just tidy up as I go along, put a wash on everyday and put it away as soon as it's dry, wipe kitchen surfaces every day, run the hoover over the kitchen & living room 3 times a week, clean bathroom, kitchen, dust and hoover everywhere else once a week, change beds once a week.

Another one here recommending Tomm Smile

I've always done mine similar to organised mum or jotties journal, focus on one room per day, do the room top to bottom, then have a few daily jobs. I find it so easy and i have a 4 month old, and takes half hour tops! Have monthly jobs like oven, Windows etc and it really helps you keep on top of things

Mine is loosely

Mon: Dust and hoover bedrooms, strip beds, wash bedding

Tue: Clean bathrooms/downstairs loo (inc mopping floors), wash towels. 1 load of other washing. Shopping delivered so wipe out fridge before putting away

Weds: hoover/mop downstairs. Whites wash, another wash if needed. Another job (eg insides of windows/cleaning out kitchen drawers/cleaning microwave or oven)

Thurs: dust downstairs. Any errands in town/extra shopping needed. Load of washing. Iron school shirts/any other ironing needed (don’t iron much!)

Fri: general tidy up, quick clean bathrooms. hoover stairs and landings (four storey house Sad)Wash uniforms in evening.

I don’t do any washing over weekends unless it’s an emergency so that the machine is free for our lodgers so over the weekend I just do the daily stuff and anything I didn’t get round to in the week. Also do the meal plan and online shop although I have an app so can add stuff as I notice we need it through the week.

Kitchen is kept on top of as I go so rarely needs a big clean-hob and sides wiped after use, any spills cleaned immediately, dishwasher emptied in the morning and set going after dinner. I also have a robovac that I set going every day in the kitchen/diner/family room and get the kids to sweep up their crumbs!

It looks a lot written down but is basically 5/10 mins first thing, 20 mins to an hour later on and another 5/10 mins in the evening

What is your life like op? I start with what time I have available and work the harder tasks around that. I'm a SAHM and used to have 2 mornings a week child free so I would do laundry sorting and ironing on one day and a big bathroom clean on the other. Now ds is starting school I'll do a big clean, iron etc all on one day and keep on top of it the rest of the week. Big house? little Kids? Pets?
