Painting my hallway/landing, colour schemes?

KaySamuels · 05/06/2007 18:20

I want to paint my hallway and landing, walls and floorboards. I have a carpet at the moment and I can't wait to get rid of it. Wanted a pale green/cream colour scheme but visited my friend at the weekend and she is in the process of doing exactly the same so need a new colour scheme. Any ideas?? Please help as my mind has gone blank!!

laura ashley - duck egg blue, gorgeous

MaureenMLove · 05/06/2007 18:32

All I can do is tell you what we've got! Sounds hideous, but it really works! We've got dado rail round the middle and a heather colour on the bottom and yellow on the top! Wood flooring. It does work - honest!

Duck egg blue sounds nice. Would I do that on the walls then? What about the floor boards, steps and banister?

Hi mml, dp would not like yellow, has told me before it is banned! Sounds nice tho.

My hallway has mindees in and out all day and is covered by paintings/drawings etc, plus ofsted obligatory posters and notices.
That's why I am painting it all, hoping it will be low maintenance!

We've gone for wallpaper with a boarder in our hall. There's a sort of a cream colour at the top and a burgundy/cream swirly pattern with the matching boarder at the bottom/middle. One thing I've noticed with having the darker paper, it doesn't show up splashes from everyone (3 children+2 adults) traipsing in.

White white white

KaySamuels · 05/06/2007 19:50

I would love cream, cream cream or white white white

.....unfortunately they are not child friendly!!

get a washable scrubable paint

jalopy · 05/06/2007 20:09

Careful not to use blue in a northfacing hall. Can look very cold.

Off-white is a safe bet.

inamuckingfuddle · 05/06/2007 20:47

we have a north facing hallway and have it painted duck egg blue except for the very high wall on the half landing which is charcoal - we (and others!) think it looks great

MrsBadger · 05/06/2007 20:52

well whatever colour you paint it please use Dulux RealLife or similar tough washable paint.

We thought having the exact right shade of cream on the hall/stairs was more important and of course two years later it's now scuffed to buggery.

inamuckingfuddle · 05/06/2007 20:56

oh yes, we chose the shade, then altered it to what the decorator had available in his very hard wearing twin-toddler proof range...has done quite well so far (its only been 10 months )

warthog · 07/06/2007 08:00

i think it depends on the dimensions of your hallway / landing. tell us more.

GlassSlipper · 07/06/2007 08:05

Mine is North facing and quite dark so the people before us painted it a kind of orangey colour. warm sunbeam or something. sounds awful but it really warms the hallway and stairs up. when sun comes in from one of the side windows it looks lovely like a warm sunbeam funnily enough
