Tips for a clean and tidy house

Hi all, don't want to get flamed here but my partner and I are both naturally messy people and are determined to keep on top of the house.

I hate mess but am so busy, working 45 hours a week and studying for a degree in the evenings.

Does anyone have tips for quick daily tips or tricks that will help us to keep on top of things? Sick of spending my only free time at the weekends cleaning for hours!!

I follow organised mum online, it's helped me put things into perspective. Good luck

I've just started the organised mum method and it's helped motivate me which was one of my biggest problems. I've just done the big Spring clean over the course of 2 weeks instead of 1. It still eats up a hell of a lot of time tbh and I can see why you don't have any spare. It works on the basis that there is about 15-20 minutes of everyday cleaning (dishes, clearing up, wiping worktops etc) and then 30 minutes of proper cleaning in a different room each day, and this can be split into 3 X 10 minutes or 2 X 15 minutes. If your dp was on board you could divide these tasks and achieve a tidier cleaner house without it taking over your weekend.

It's worth checking out, there are charts and you can eliminate tasks you think don't need doing weekly, reducing time spent on cleaning while still getting good results.

Empty the bin before it needs it. Floor wipes for a lazy kitchen spruce up. Clean the bathroom. Always go to bed with a tidy kitchen.

Collapsible boxes. Go round the house putting everything downstairs that needs to be upstairs in one and vice versa. Much easier to redistribute to the correct rooms. Go round with said box and pick up stuff not where it should be. Centralises the task and less overwhelming if in a small space to sort. Have one place for admin/paperwork - a basket or tray may help with this. Nothing too big as it becomes a monumental task! Then sort once a week/fortnight. Storage is really key and just developing a low tolerance to clutter. I just crack on and never move from one room to another empty handed. Theirs always something in the wrong fucking place in our house!

@bluetrampolines totally agree re the kitchen. Pet hate coming down to a kitchen tip. Even if we are too tired pissed on a fri or sat night we at least stack the pots and wipe benches down. It makes sorting the bacon butties in the morning much easier

Thanks all, definitely going to investigate some of those tips. I get panic stricken someone is just going to 'pop in' before we've done the big weekend clean (it's not dirty cus I have to have a clean bathroom etc and do it every week) but i just feel like there is crap everywhere!!

Makes me want to just put all off our stuff in the bin! Haha
