My washing machine is filthy

And it’s not getting clothes clean.
The detergent drawer is currently in the dishwasher but I just can’t get the rest of it clean.

My plan is to put it on a boil wash once I’ve got the drawer back but is there anything else I should do.

(Really I’d prefer to just buy I new one but I guess I should give this a go)

You can buy washing machine cleaner. I just run a 90deg wash with either bleach or white vinegar.

There is washing machine cleaner you can get in supermarkets or wilko, Dr. Oettkar which you put in on a hot wash. Also you need to clean the door seal, mine was black, they can be replaced if it's really gross and all flopping about. Scrub inside the detergent drawer compartment. Which bits are really dirty.

It's Dr betterman, or something like that, the other doctor makes my chocolate brownies Smile

The inside of the drawer compartment, the bit where the water sprays out is filthy, as is the seal.
I’ll try a boil wash with white vinegar and if that’s no good then I’ll get some of the Dr Beckmann cleaner stuff.

Take the dispenser out, spray the inside of the dispenser with bleach (I like HG Mould spray as it's amaaaazing).

Spray some HG (or use Zoflora) on a wet cloth and wipe around the seal and the door of the machine.

Then use Dr Beckmann on a hot wash.
Once a month run Zoflora through the machine on a 90 degree wash.

This sounds like a good excuse to buy Zoflora.

Do you use capsules or liquid?i found when I used them that my compartment and machine became filthy and it’s because of the abrasive nature of powder that keeps it clean. I changed back

SimonBridges · 05/08/2018 23:59

No, I use powder.
I think I use too much through.

A mix of very hot white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda is a good cleaner, for mould. I also put the (low chemical) detergent in a 'ball' within the drum of the machine, and use softener (you can buy specific softening balls) that stay in the machine you don't need extra softener then.

My machine is never mucky ! Obviously you clean out the gap of the rubber bit before each wash).

You could buy a baby bottle brush and put fairy liquid and dettol on it and scrub the life out of the water nozzles.

Singlenotsingle · 06/08/2018 12:09

I've bought something called Calgon for descaling and cleaning. Dr Beckmann is very good though - they do a carpet cleaning solution which I use, and is very good. For carpets, not washing machines.

Boil wash with soda crystals (at least 1/2 bag / 500g) putting some in powder draw and the remainder straight in drum.

Then another boil wash with white vinegar (distilled Malt) - 1 bottle - some in draw, rest in drum.

Then in future no fabric softener and it should never get like that.
