Antibacterial Products

I bought a new Method spray today - it's a lovely citrus scent. It says to leave for 5 mins for it to work it's anti-bac magic.

This got me thinking... do we NEED to use anti bacteria products or not?

Well as a society they're not good for us. Kind of similar to overuse of antibiotics

I use them mainly because I have an ASD child who will not wash his hands no matter how I try to make him and I'm immunosupressed so I can get a little paranoid. I try not to overuse them though.

Sleepyslops · 30/07/2018 14:53

Thanks John, I didn't realise how bad they were!

Slutty, I'm a bit paranoid too, but trying to think about the environment more and see if I actually do need to anti bac everything or not. I even use anti bac bar soap in the shower. Blush

I don't use them, and I don't get ill any more than anyone else. My children are healthy too. I've also heard they are bad for the environment.

TheClitterati · 31/07/2018 06:32

I don't/won't use them.

A folly of our time IMO.

AlexaAmbidextra · 31/07/2018 09:59

No we don’t need them and I won’t have them in the house. They do more harm than good and are simply a marketing ploy.

MyYoniFromHull · 31/07/2018 10:01

Using detergent appropriately will physically remove pathogens. Fresh teatowels daily, frequent new or laundered dishcloths.
And anti bacterial soaps wreck my hands. Soap and water is plenty good enough.

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2018 13:30

Another soap and water vote.
Sprays are the worst - you inhale it.

bluerunningshoes · 31/07/2018 14:01

soap and water is usually enough. high temperatures for laundry & dishes
in case of illnesses (d&v) bleach is better than other antibac products.

I actively avoid anything anti bacterial. I don't think it's healthy.
