Slow cooker -will I use it or is it just a phenomenal dust gatherer?

We're a mainly vegetarian household (only DS eats meat and he won't eat stews )

Would I use a SC? I'm thinking if I make soups or lasagne sauce (veg mince) or chilli (veg mince)]

Rather than hob cooking (and making sure it doesn't bloody burn Hmm )

I'd need to find space for it .
Is it worth it?

I love my slow cooker and use it for all sorts of things. It makes an amazing risotto, excellent stew and bread and butter pudding in it was a revelation. Mulled wine and hot chocolate during winter. Fabulous stocks and soups. Curries, brisket, oxtails, ribs and ragu. I wouldn't be without mine, although it does tend to be a little unloved in the summer months.

What problem are you trying to solve? Do you eat the sort of things that you can cook in One?

BiteyShark · 28/07/2018 06:38

I always found slow cookers boiled the food Sad.

Got a PKP and the slow cooker on that is brilliant. I can leave it on for 10-12 hours and the food is lovely, totally unlike the two SCs I had previously. I have used the pressure cooker and I do like it when time is short but it did get a bit of getting used to (for example if you burn food on the bottom when you brown food then the pressure cooker facility doesn't work as well after). Once I understood it I have made lovely curries etc.

Electric pressure cooker. It's safe as anything. And there should generally be no stream as you let it pressure release naturally for meat so it stays nice and tender

Veggie recipes - I make veggie chilli, soups, veggie lasagne and vegetable pie fillings in mine.
I also love the fact that every recipe I make in it leaves enough to freeze.

Mainly long cooking things like lentil soup, chilli and lasagne sauce.
I could cut up a load of onions and oven roast them as the base, freeze them in bags and use that , so I won't need to sear them.

It will be mainly for A/W to come back to a chilli or something.

My DMum used to pressure cook everything to death, everything tasted inspid TBH , so maybe that;s why I;m not a fan of pressure cookers?

The one I was looking at has gone back to full price ...........Ha! Grin That's a sign !
I was never meant to buy It .

I love my slow cooker. I can dump some frozen casserole veg and barley or lentils and stock in it and come home to delicious soup.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/11/2018 21:20

I have ordered one , it will be with me soon.

I'm planning to buy the ingredients for vegetarian chilli and let it get on with it .
I can also try soups I think, get all the oddments of veg ( I buy loads of veg , for the guinea=pigs and us) and try different ones.

Off to search recipes .

I use my slow cooker a couple of times a week when I work til 6.45. It’s ready for when the kids come in so they can help themselves and i eat when I get in

What is an instant pot please how does it differ from a slow cooker

ChishandFips33 · 12/11/2018 07:18

I don't use mine a lot but it is bloody brilliant. I have a crockpot.

I just need to find things DH will eat from it!

rainbowquack · 12/11/2018 09:33

Hurrah! Welcome! You can also make desserts in it x

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/11/2018 23:38

OK
I made chilli on Saturday ( fried the onions first then let it get on with it ) delicious, and vegetarian curry on Sunday (nice but the cauliflower was a bit overdone)

Tomorrow it can do some lasagne sauce then I;ll try some lentil soup.

What desserts can I do?
I fancy trying some mincemeat in the Slo-Co

That sounds lovely - mine's a boring dark brown Crockpot!

Can I ask where you got it from?

Anyone have any slow cooker cake recipe favourites? Preferably chocolate!
