How to freshen clothes? Soda crystals?

I’ve been using Dettol laundry cleanser - I know it’s a bit pointless, but it’s the one thing so far that has really helped with sweaty clothes, DH and DCs are quite active and sweat very easily.

During this hot weather drying the clothes outside has meant extra freshness, which is great, but the rest of the time when I can’t dry outside we have to dry indoors (no tumble dryer) and it will take about a day for clothes to dry, so I find they don’t get as fresh as when outside.

Is there a practical alternative to Dettol laundry cleanser? Would soda crystals do the job? (They do most jobs Grin)

Just to clarify, pointless for us in that we don’t need to antibacterial our clothes (or maybe we do and that’s what is helping with the sweat?!).

Soda crystals will fade colours and are better for stain removal rather than smell.

Distilled Malt (white) Vinegar instead of fabric conditioner/detol laundry cleanser usually works.

If it doesn't you need to really rub vinegar (or I've heard vodka works too) into the pits as deodorant can build up and trap the sweat bacteria into the fabric.

Thanks Spaniels, I’ll try vinegar in our next wash Smile

Zoflora would be much cheaper. You could add it to the wash cycle or final rinse, or use a dilute spray on pits of clothes. Not very environmentally friendly but should stop whiffs.

Thanks Frog, I have some Zoflora so I can give that a go.

Try Halo sports laundry wash. You can get it in Sainsbury's.

I haven’t been able to find Halo for years! I’ll see if I can hunt some down.

White vinegar. Spray is about £1 in Savers. Spray the garment's armpits before washing.
