washing new baby clothes

What's the best detergent for baby clothes, blankett, sheets, etc? Do you wash only their stuff in it or all of your stuff? We use Dreft in the States (says my mom) but I haven't been able to find that here. Is there one standard brand that everyone uses?

Fairy every time, its GORGEOUS.

Some people insist in a Non Bio detergent, and from time to time there are persons who say it doesn't make any differecnce.

I use fairy non bio (or any non bio available in tablets on the day that I visit the supermarket)

Rantmum · 30/05/2007 20:50

I used ecover - gentle and environmentally friendly. Whatever you use it is worth finding a non-bio because they are much less harsh.

I now use these and they are great - no perfume, very gentle and also very economical.

Meant to say that I wash all our clothes with these - you can wash up to 60 degrees (I don't tend to use higher cos I find it shrinks stuff)

Have always used Persil and Lenor and neither of mine have had any probs.
Personally, would not be bothered to try different brands unless baby had eczema or other skin conditions.

I've seen Dreft in Tesco, well at least my one has it. Iused to use Ecover liquid for mine as it smells divine, don't think it really matters, some people prefer Fairy or Persil and I usually just bung them in with the usual family wash

yes another vote for ecover and eco-balls (don't do whites with eco-balls though I have found)

DivaSkyChick · 31/05/2007 14:47

What are eco balls and how do they work? no fabric softener will be quite tragic, I think. The water is so hard here I'm always afraid my sheets will crack when I fold them!

The link to one of the websites will explain what eco-balls are better than I can - I have never used fabric softener although I do tumbledry towels (I also use dryer balls here to reduce drying time and static - works as an alternative to fabric softener). As for whites I always try to hang them up outside - nothing keeps them white like sunshine (what a housewifey thing for me to say )

DivaSkyChick · 01/06/2007 11:17

Do we live in the same country? WHAT sunshine? :O

I'm in a flat with no garden so hang drying can take days but I do it because the tumble dryer is rubbish anyway. At the end of the cycle I just get hot damp clothes anyway.

Thanks for the info tho, I'll look into it. Do they make a lot of noise while the dryer is going? knocking about like that?
