What does your house smell of?

I'm after some tips on how to get my home smelling lovely, You know when you walk in to some peoples homes and they smell fresh and 'just cleaned'.
Everything is done regularly, mopping, a deep clean of the kitchen etc, but unless I have just mopped or used a product the house never really smells fresh, not stale but not that fresh clean smell I love.
My mum used to come and spray everything 3/4 times a day with air freshener when we were children, it was just up your nose all day and i'm not a fan of the stuff now.
Should I be using plug ins? Any tips would be great. x Grin

Oil diffuser. I also put zoflora in a spray bottle with water and spray sofas, curtains. I zoflora most things 😭😂 the pink grapefruit one is amazing. Of course, opening windows helps. Happens a lot more here in the summer.

I don't doubt zoflora has it's uses (I add it to bedding washes when the family have been sick, or clear smelly drains) but it's an antibac isn't it. I can't see spraying it around the house as a scent is good for anyone and it is very pungent.

I have some reed diffusers (for small spaces Primark do a range of minis that are a pound each and have some clean scents that are ideal for downstairs toilet etc). We also have a scentsy wax burner in the lounge though some of the waxes I've tried are a bit overwhelming. That probably goes on a couple of days a week. Then a candle in the kitchen (usually prices open window). I think it's important the smells don't clash, so I tend to stick within a theme.

The most important thing is ensuring the house is aired though, we almost always have a window open somewhere. When I go to houses where people don't I can tell and the house smells musty somehow.

Some good ideas here. I've put an electric oil diffuser on my amazon wishlist since my birthday is coming up.

Also, I have started using a Price's Chef's Candle when I cook (as well as putting on fans and / or opening windows) and it works incredibly well to neutralise cooking odors.

For anyone interested in the cool mist diffuser or essential oils this is a great selection, particularly for people who like the scent to correspond with the season like me!

I'm counting down the days until I can crack open the pine needles oil Grin

I have bought two Reed diffusers Grin and I'm way more excited than I should be.
Are the cool mist diffusers better?
any products that don't smell too harsh for the carpet/curtains or does everyone use the essential oils diluted down?
I love the smells being continuous through the house makes such a difference rather than a different smell to each room.
Our windows are constantly open at the mo, despite living on a building site. And I can really tell when the house has been aired properly. x

Not tried it myself but a friend said she wipes her radiators with softener in winter so smells of clean laundry

BasicUsername · 13/08/2018 15:05

I love the smell after I've cleaned the sofas. They are leather, and the spray I use weekly has almond oil in it, and about every six weeks I use saddle soap on them.

Leather shine spray:

In winter, I wipe the radiators down with fabric softener or essential oil, then the fragrance permeates the room when the radiators are on.

I also have the windows open for at least an hour every day, no matter how bad the weather.

@Stickmangate I just use a little spray bottle, you can get one for a couple of quid from superdrug.

Can't believe people spray feebreeze (or whatever it is called)willy nilly. Dreadful. Why can't people just open their windows and let fresh air in.
Air freshners...another reason that nation's health is going to pot.
