THree days to make my house feel more organised/less cluttered

Today is day one of three days off work and I have grand plans to make a dent in the clutter/general chaos!

I’ve so far cleared the leaning tower of paper off the kitchen worktop and hung a load of washing on the line.

I’ve made a long list of things to do which is probably quite unrealistic in three days but I have to start somewhere.

Anyone fancy joining me?

Today’s jobs are :

Tax return
Organise the craft cupboard
Clean bathroom
Declutter toys and organise them in a way that the whole lot don’t get pulled out at the same time!!

See I find it easier to do room by room then shut the door behind me.
Put everything that shouldn’t be in the room outside of the room and rehome after you’ve finished that room.
Put rubbish in bag.
Clean/dust surfaces then hoover.
And do like rooms together eg bathroom, ensuite, downstairs loo.

Repeat in every room.
Then declutter cupboards etc after.
I know different ways work for different people but this works for me.

Same as Fishface. Often the dining room gets completely trashed as stuff is moved in there as other rooms are done, and then dining room last of all because it's the easiest.

In grim times, I do circuits around the house with a black bin bag for rubbish and a box for recycling and then a bag for charity before I even start to clean.

Same as Fishface and Cynderella.

I start in the kitchen and work through each room. Anything that doesn't belong in that room gets chucked in a box or a bag. When I finish all the rooms I empty the box, group the items by room and return them to where they belong.

If I don't have a lot of time, I will tidy and skim clean the room. If I have more time I will do a deeper clean.

Not perfect but works for me!

Thanks for the replies Smile
I’m fighting a losing battle and feeling quite defeated - totally my own fault for thinking I could achieve more than is realistically possible.
I still have time though and will concentrate on the sitting room now.
Kitchen is pretty much done. Bathroom is good enough - it needs replacing but I don’t know when that will happen so good enough is about as good as it’s going to get for now.
Upstairs, however, is where I was hoping to get the most done but as it’s the general dumping ground (and has been for a decade) it’s the most overwhelming.
I will do as suggested and get everything back in the correct rooms and go from there.
I have time off at the end of August so will have to use that time to get it all done properly.

No it’s not a loosing battle.
It feels like your climbing a mountain but you CAN get there. One step at a Time. Perhaps join one of the housekeeping threads on decluttering and organisation.

Thanks fishface Smile
I was on the ‘get rid of one thing a day’ thread a little while ago and found it quite motivating so will sign myself up again and get back into the habit of getting rid of things.
