Wooden worktops-do you drain dishes straight onto them?

We have just had our work tops sanded and reoiled because of black marks around the sink.
I've been using a betterware plastic tray to drain on but it's really ugly and I'm not sure if it has saved the wood anyway.
The worktop underneath is so lovely I'm loath to stick the plastic tray back but I'm worried about ruining the wood.
Do many of you drain directly onto the worktops?

No, I've got a Simplehuman drainer with a spout so the worktop stays dry.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Not if you want it to stay nice. and not go black.

That's what we had before ditching the wood and getting quartz and a dishwasher.

Brabantia and Joseph Joseph I think both do a drainer with a spout. I put mine in the under the sink cupboard when I’m not using it.

I moved into a flat with no draining board without really thinking about it, as I didn’t imagine anyone would be so batshit crazy as to design a kitchen without a draining board. Why??

Ours is a butler’s sink so no draining board.
