Ok, I'm considering swapping over to white vinegar, especially as I assume that it will also act as a descaler to the machine gubbins and avoid limescale damage. I do have a few questions/reservations though.

  1. How much do you use for a full wash (6kg load)

  2. Does it really soften clothes ? Is it as effective as a 1/2 dose of 'normal' fabric conditioner ?

  3. Do the clothes smell vinegary afterwards? Do you have to give an extra rinse to be sure ?

Thanks

i tried it on the nappies and it didn't work at all.

used a small amount the first time and nothing happened, used loads the next and the nappies were hard and smelled of viniger.

gave up after that!

I use "a splash" probably about a tablespoon/half one of the concentrated conditioner lids

Not as soft on radiators, but def softer than nothing. I notice no difference at all if I line dry.

Nope, no vinegary smell (I know because my friend said that she could smell vinegar if it was used, and that I clearly only used it in my nappy washes... she be wrong )

ahhh, you see i can't afford to run ourcrappy tumble drier so all our washing is line dried, might be why i don't notice a differance

I was wondering why it had to be white vinegar, doesn't malt do the same though (or do your clothes smell of chips?)
