Are miele's really worth it?

Our washing machine has bust. Looking at spending £800 on a Miele.
But that feels obsene. I'm prepared to do it if it means that our washing is going to be loads cleaner and we have reliability (our old machine was pretty pants, and we don't have a tumble dryer).

But if it's not all that, and as likely to break in 4 years as any machine, I'd rather save the money.

Can any one advise?

Simply, yes.

Most of our appliances are Miele. Nothing else comes close, imo.

My washer dryer’s 20 years old and never had any attention despite several house moves. On top of that and performance there’s the fact that because I’ve looked after it, it looks new, not a mark or a chip on it. When I close the door it still feels really solid as all the parts do.

Thanks all, think you've made my mind up for me!

I would never buy Miele again. Fridge freezer broke after 4 years out of warranty so had to replace replacement had 5 call outs in 2 yrs. steamer stopped working after 18 months taken 5 visits to fix. Miele will love not replace.

Why do which recommend Samsung washing machines so ?

20nil · 03/07/2018 09:07

Miele all the way for washing machines. They are robust and clean very well. But never again for a tumble dryer. We had two nightmares and absolutely terrible service from Miele. Have had a Bosch dryer for a few years now and love it.

Onynx
I do not have any experience of Miele washing machines but from recent experience with a vacuum cleaner I will never, ever again buy anything from Miele. Their customer service is absolutely appalling. Spare parts are far more expensive than any other brand- so in my opinion do not purchase!

This, apart from the fact that I do have experience of a Miele washing machine (I would never buy one again). My experience of their customer service is that it is entirely at odds with the good reputation of their products. Worth googling Miele reviews.

I had a Miele washing machine, it was great, quiet and lasted 16 years... so we replaced it with another one.

Shook my entire house, got someone out to look at it and they told us we needed a concrete floor put in Hmm

So we sent it back.

bilbodog · 05/07/2018 18:17

Ive just bought my second one as the first one lasted about 20 years. I recommend just getting the cheapest model - ive never used all the different programs on other machines. My new one does 20 min washes!

gildashairflick · 05/07/2018 18:31

I have a Miele washing machine and dishwasher and can't fault either of them. They both replaced Bosch versions that packed in (and were too expensive to be worth repairing) within 4 years of purchase. I'm waiting for our Zannusi dryer to die so I can get a Miele but the bugger is hanging in there after 7 years! I like the Miele design, simple to use. Not loads of unnecessary programs and they both clean incredibly well. I only wash clothes on a 30 min wash unless filthy and they come out totally fine. I only bought entry level versions of each (around £600 each).

Fayrazzled · 05/07/2018 18:40

I’ve a Miele washing machine which has bee been going 8 years of hard labour with no issue- it came with a 10 year guarantee- they have promotions sometimes. I’d say the noticeable differences over the previous Bosch model we had are build quality- it is much heavier and not at all flimsy and that the clothes come out cleaner! I’d recommend but go bottom of the range- you don’t need all the fancy electronics.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 05/07/2018 21:50

My Miele has lasted longer than any other machine I've ever owned, it is well over 10years old and still going strong!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 05/07/2018 21:52

Meant to say it’s a washer dryer but I rarely use the dryer as I prefer to hand my washing.

I also have two Miele vacuum cleaners and love them.

snackarella · 05/07/2018 22:22

We spent £1600 on a washing machine and it's excellent at cleaning. It has broken twice under warranty though.... 😬

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 06/07/2018 06:41

I would advise caution. Our Miele fridge freezer completely stopped working after 29 days. We called John Lewis (the seller) who would have replaced it the next day had it broken on day 28. Instead they referred us to Miele whose customer service was absolutely dreadful - completely dIsinterested and unhelpful. They could not send an engineer out until 3 weeks later (in the height of summer) and when he came he initially would only order a repair. We pushed back and after days of argument a replacement was promised, but they had no delivery slot available for 3 weeks. Again, after much too-ing and fro-ing, the company finally agreed to hire in a van and man to deliver replacement a week later.

Our Miele washing machine (bought at the same time) is ok, noisy and cleans no better than our previous Bosch. In fact out Bosch dishwasher is 19 years old and Bosch tumble dryer is 12 years old. Both a fraction of the Miele price.

KitchenFloor · 06/07/2018 06:44

Yes Miele is worth it. Our washer dryer is nearly 10 years old now and hasn't given us any issues at all.
There's an outlet in Abingdon if anywhere near you but you need to go in person.
They're also one of the more ethical brands, see ethical consumer reports.

KitchenFloor · 06/07/2018 06:46

We also bought a second hand dishwasher off eBay. It was still going strong 5 years later (again no issues) when we replaced it when we redid the kitchen.

Ifailed · 06/07/2018 06:50

SirSidneyRuffDiamond you were fobbed-off by John Lewis. It's the retailers responsibility to ensure goods are fit-for-purpose, one that breaks after 29 days clearly wasn't.

I had the same with Curry's when a TV I bought died after a couple of months, they tried to push the responsibility to Sony, the manufacturer. It was only when I mentioned that I would report them to Trading Standards that the manager suddenly appeared. I left 1/2 hour later with a new telly.

Still no excuse for Sidney's customer service experience. I found these reviews after encountering issues with their customer service:

holycityzoo · 06/07/2018 13:09

Our house was fitted with a Miele microwave, dishwasher, an induction hob,two ovens, steam oven, coffee machine and warming drawer.
The customer service is crap and they are ridiculously expensive to repair. No one will touch them as the can't get the spare parts so Miele have to come every time. The dishwasher died after a few years and we replaced with a Bosch which is just as good.
Last time a service technician came out he advised us not to use one of our ovens as if there was a problem they would struggle to fix it as parts no longer available.
None of the appliances are any better than others I've had in the past.

KitchenFloor · 06/07/2018 23:26

@holycityzoo why would you not use a working oven? Surely the worst that happens is you use it and it breaks?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/07/2018 11:01

My Miele WM is under 2yo with a split belt that I'm waiting on a replacement for.
I've previously had a Bosch ( 10yo before it went wrong ) Hotpoint (dire) Zanussi(the old one before they were Electrolux) good

I will defer judgement on the Miele until its mended and I find out whu the blighter shredded its belt Hmm
