Why might my brand new washer be making clothes smell cheesy? Same powder, same people...baffled!!

Could it be coincidental what with the heat wave and er, excessive bodily secretions?

My clothes used to suffer badly from this, but I found a squirt of vinegar in the wash meant I didn't have to throw shirts away after a few months.

Have you tried running it once empty, on your hottest wash?

If that doesn't work, do it again with Dettol Laundry Liquid?

keepingbees · 01/07/2018 16:48

Have you done a drum clean on empty before using? My new machine and dishwasher took a while to stop smelling fishy but didn't affect the clothes and use

Has it got a quick wash option you’ve been using?

SluttyButty · 01/07/2018 17:10

It's the bacteria in the clothes/bedding from sweat that causes that cheesy, off dairy smell here. I have been running much longer and hotter washes to clean the sweaty clothes better.

Thanks for tips...yes I have been using quick wash a lot. I will get some Detol Liquid and do a hot wash.

The man who repairs our washing machine always suggests doing an empty hot wash with biological powder, not liquid, once a month to clean it all out.

I do it when I remember

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 02/07/2018 11:01

Apart from with delicates, I have gone back to non bio powder after years of non bio liquids and capsules. I think powder cleans better. I don't use as much either, and it usually works out cheaper.

It's a bit like how bar soap cleans better than shower gel!

Things new-fangled things. Pfft! Smile

Quick washes are only really any good for refreshing things which have been previously washed but have sat in a cupboard etc.

Given how long it takes to heat water from cold fill, the clothes are getting the merest swish in detergent before the rinsing and spinning I.e. not enough to get rid of skin grease/flakes/sweat away.

Full washes in advance, using rinse hold if need be to finish just before you want to hang out/dry is the best way to get round the pita of long wash times while actually getting the clothes clean

I've been using the intensive wash setting on our machine during this hot spell and pre washing some stuff too.
