Soaking stained baby clothes- how?

I have twin boys coming up to 6m and already they produce way more washing than my daughter ever did- I’ve tried different brands of nappies and still get a poo up the back every day from each of them... often with collateral damage like a bouncer too (to forestall any “try cloth” comments - they both get sore bums with reusables like my DD did and don’t have time to investigate further right now). I currently rinse the clothes under the tap; rub with a bit of vanish stain bar then the item just sits around until the next wash. Bit gross; and weaning is starting soon so the mess and piles of wet vests is only going to get worse.

I like the idea of a bucket with a lid to chuck clothes in to soak. What should I put in it though? Just water or something else? I keep reading napisan but is it safe on coloured clothes? I do washing at least every other day so wouldn’t be soaking longer than a day or two.
I’m also wondering about changing from non bio to bio powder as I do the odd wash in bio capsules and it doesn’t seem to affect anyone’s skin. Might save on stain stuff if I manage to keep the stained items wet until washing?

Honestly? Sun worked on poo stains for me. Despite me being deeply sceptical, it really, really did.

That’s fine now, but I can’t always dry clothes outside :-( Plus with DD I found once she was weaning sun never really touched the orange stains round the necks of everything! And poo sun wasn’t so good on weaning poo stains yeurgh!

Vanish powder

You don’t have to dry things outside for the sun to work, put them on the windowsill in the sunniest room for a couple of days and that will do the trick. Works on most things.

I went quite large with the disposables, as large as I could go without wee leaking through the legs (luckily my boy was chubby of thigh)
It meant the nappies were almost up to his armpits, but it seriously reduced the poo leaks. Popper vests to help keep them in place as well.

I didn't find much that got rid of stains, but soaking in bio powder dissolved in a bucket of water did help a bit.

I rinse straight away with washing up liquid, giving them a good scrub. Then chuck baby clothes on a 60° quickwash rubbing a bit of washing machine liquid on stain if needed.

Don't use non bio.

I soak in cold water in the washing up bowl after "pushing" the stain back through with the cold water tap. I'll leave it to soak all day (have a dishwasher so don't need the bowl) then bung it straight into the washing machine until the next wash, which is never more than a day away.

Definitely leave them to soak in a bucket after a quick spray and rub of the stained area. I used vanish sometimes but tended to use a plant based stain remover when soaking as I found vanish could strip the colour in some things. Sunlight is great for removing stains, I agree with a previous poster about leaving near a window if you can hang outside. Even on cold days though, I would put on a rack outside then bring inside at night/if threatening to rain. We don't have a dryer though and we have a small house so don't want racks everywhere!

I haven't had any bother getting poo stains out. Just chuck the dirty clothes in her wash basket and do a load when there's enough.

Use fairy non bio powder and a scoop of vanish gold in a Normal eco wash at 40'! No soaking or anything.

Also I have just gone up a nappy size which has prevented the up the back poos so far! We use aldi size 3 and DD is 12 weeks old approx 13lbs

moggle · 30/06/2018 22:19

Thanks for all the advice! We’ll definitely be going up a size once I’ve finished this pack. I will try bio powder, I guess since I add vanish to most washes anyway it basically becomes bio anyway so I might as well save a little money.
Also I don’t know what “poo sun” is in my last post! Would blame phone but probably my fault ...
