Laundry: How to clean oil-stained sheets?

I've been absolutely slathering myself in rosehip oil before bed in a bid to save what I can of my 36 year old skin. I didn't anticipate the drainage this would cause to my sheet, duvet cover, and pillowcases!

As they are quite nice ones, I'd like to save them if I can. They've been washed at 30 or 40 with both bio and non-bio washing powder, and have also been tumble dried, but stains remain after washing and look like tide marks over the cotton.

I'm worried I've set the stain, maybe with the tumbke drying. Is there anything I can do??

Stainage, not drainage!! Blush

Try soaking them in cold water and then scrubbing them with green fairy laundry soap or carbolic soap. Then put them on a cool wash.

If they're cotton, I'd chuck them into a boil wash and see if that shifts it. Maybe try the sheet first?

Wash at 6o with Ariel not shit washing powder.

Try scrubbing with fairy liquid first then washing them

GlitterGlue · 26/06/2018 19:12

Yep, try washing up liquid. And a very hot wash with bio. Although tumbling may well have set the stain.

Thanks for the suggestions mumsnet laundry fairies! If the stain did set in the tumbler, is that it? Could it still fade over time and many washes?

Mr Muscle Shout Stain Removal Spray

If they’re white sheets and still stained after the washing up liquid I’d try a 90 degree wash with napisan.

Vanish bar works well on grease stains. You need to thoroughly wet the stain, scrub with the bar until it lathers and leave to soak. Then another scrub before washing

Oil is notoriously difficult to get out. You need heat IME to melt it so that it can unbind from the fabric. Probably 60 is high enough.

You can get fat and oil stain remover which might be worth a try. Otherwise washing up liquid rubbed into the stain possibly. Sometimes you'll have luck (counterintuitively) with more oil so that it's fresh but obviously that could make it worse.

Ahhh I ruined multiple sets of bedding and so many clothes from using oil when I was pregnant
I tried everything! Hot washes, cold washes all sorts of lotions and potions
I even boiled some of my favourite ruined dresses to try and remove it
But in the end I gave up and had to throw it all away because it smelt horrible and i just couldn't remove the stains!

Sorry no actual advice but I hope you find a solution that works!!!
