Hello, my hover stopped working and I'm looking for a new one. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Flier!

mumemma · 24/05/2007 22:40

Got a Henry but my cleaner keeps asking me to get a Miele. Previously had a Dyson which I hated.

fedda · 24/05/2007 23:15

Would you please kindly tell me what it means 'cleans as maniac' and 'nearly ripped my carpets'. Are they too parful, noisy, can they damage things? I'm trying to find a good hoover which would last for me and be good for carpets, floors, have some attachments for the radiators, be not noisy, safe and easy to use, have no fumes comming out, easy to carry on steps. i'm very grateful for all your postings and if you could still help me choose something good which you;ve tried and tested, I'll be truly grateful. Sorry if i sound too fussy. I often have back problems and my last hoovers were not a good choice, rather waste of money. I'm really lost in this world of hoovers. Thank you.

I must be tired - I thought you wanted recommendation on a new lover been a long day.

fedda · 25/05/2007 10:37

Tired people who can still joke? Oh, well, my sence of humour is on it's low. I'm too busy looking for some good ideas for the VACUUM CLEANER. Anyone?

A Miele definately!

Mine is years old and DP left the soft rubber part of the hose next to a heater all night and it melted, we saw off the melted bit and sellotaped the 2 ends back together and the suction in it is still amazing!!!!

dozydizzy · 26/05/2007 15:30

My dyson broke last week (at long last, yaaaaay! crappest hoover ever) and we bought the Miele S4211 on the advice of Which. Flaming Fantastic!! I thought my carpets would never look clean and nice again and they look brilliant after one going over....nearly sucked up the rugs, lol. there are 6 different settings for the different uses, ie upholstery, curtains, rugs, lightly soiled carpets, heavily soiled carpets and a generic eco one which is still bloody powerful! I think I am in love with my new Miele, pmsl, and would highly recomment it. It is a bagged one but after years of coughing with the horrible dust from empyting my bagless dyson I am more than happy.
Oh and brilliant for hard floors too. Get one!!

fedda · 26/05/2007 21:37

I'm happy for you, dozydizzy. Does your hoover have attachments? I've looked on a picture and I couldn's see any. How is it on stairs? Is it heavy to carry, how easy is it to clean the stairs? What attachments does it have? Ta.

dozydizzy · 27/05/2007 15:12

Hi fedda, it has the standard attachments - upholstery brush, dusting brush and thin attachment thingy that gets in corners. It's really light (well compared to my old dyson anyway) and easy to pull round, it sits on each stair easily so good for doing the stairs, hth.

dancer11 · 27/05/2007 21:26

I was distraught when my v. old henry died, but now I'm in love with my new Meile cat and dog. recommend it to any one.

chocolateteapot · 27/05/2007 21:38

I got fed up of waiting for my Dyson to break and having dirty looking carpets so I bought a Miele Cat & Dog after reading up on here.

It's light to use, has different settings so I can turn it down and persuade it to leave the carpet on the floor when it gets too enthusiastic, doesn't scratch my wooden floor, balances easily on the stairs when doing them, you can adjust the hose length so you don't need to bend and it doesn't hurt my back.

fedda · 27/05/2007 22:24

Would you say Cat and Dog is better then S4211?

OP posts:
chocolateteapot · 28/05/2007 11:06

I have no idea but went for the Cat & Dog as I have a cat and Comet had a special offer on that weekend that meant I could buy on line, pick it up in the store and it was £144, this was a few weeks ago.

Upsadaisygoonpunkmakemyday · 28/05/2007 11:14

I had to double take i thought the thread was asking to reccommend a good lover lol

fedda · 28/05/2007 16:56

Come on, it's not funny any more!
How is Miele on the carpets? I have wall to wall carpeting and some psople say it's got to be upright. I'd rather have cilinder but my hubby things that it's easier to be careless and damage the furmniture dragging it around. How did youfind yours?

OP posts:
chocolateteapot · 28/05/2007 18:10

Fedda, just go and buy a Miele, they are excellent on carpet and you won't regret it, I promise ! If you don't have any pets then I think one of the cheaper Miele's would be more than fine.

MrsCellophane · 03/11/2007 09:28

Just checking out old threads, because I need a new vac... always had upright, but am thinking of being adventurous (!) and trying the Miele (S4211?).... should i go for it?

Is it really easy to use? (suffer from bad back sometimes)

Is it OK on laminate flooring ?

MrsCellophane · 03/11/2007 09:35

OK, just ascertained from Argos and Amazon, that I'd need to buy the £199 one for a hardwood floor brush.... however, at the moment (at least until it started smelling in danger of blowing up), I use the upholstery attachment on my Dyson to do the hard floors.

Is there an upholstery brush on the Miele S 4211?

Thanks Trace. That's a website worth remembering.

I have bought the Miele one. Looks like I made a good decision. Thanks MNers!
