Induction hob, ceramic or gas?

I have no idea. We're going to be extending and redesigning our kitchen soon. I have only ever made do with what's already in place (a gas hob) or bought a freestanding electric cooker. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of an induction hob vs a ceramic hob? I'm reasonably used to gas - are he other options likely to be better?

Definitely get induction over just ceramic. I'd had gas hobs for nearly 20 years but put an induction range in our new kitchen. It is as responsive, even moreso probably, than gas and so much easier to keep clean. I wouldn't go back.

Interesting, thanks. What about not being able to stir fry? Not that I do that a lot but seems a bit of a pain.

Induction much more responsive than ceramic and brings a pan of water to the boil as fast as a kettle - I miss that, having moved to a house with a gas hob. Stir frying isn't great on any electric hob but you can get wider bottomed skillets or chefs pans that do the job reasonably well. You can get the base hot enough and you just have to let used to tossing the food with a couple of spatulas and keep taking the pan off the heat to a minimum.

Induction is great if you have kids because the cooking surface doesn't stay hot for long.

You can stir fry - I have a large wok with a flat base.

I got both induction and a domino gas job.
Best of both worlds.

Nobody doing a kitchen imo would put in a ceramic hob so i would rule that out. Technology has moved on-site so it is really only a choice between gas and induction. I love induction - the time i have saved in my future life from not having to clean a hob more than a quick wipe is priceless!!

Shows what I know B00dyMary! I'm just going by what's in the Howden's brochure. I've ever had a decent kirchen as an adult and my mum always had crappy freestanding cookers until she got her electric Rangemaster (which was not great).

That wasn't a dig btw so please don't take it as one - i didnt know that electric hob technology is as good or better than gas now before i started researching a kitchen - so try to get the best you can. I've got a Siemens induction and I really rate it. You can often get good deals from kitchen showrooms selling off their display appliances.
