I need a new hoover and would like a dyson handheld one for convenience really, are they any good as they don’t come cheap?

no they are shit. bagless generally is not ideal for allergy sufferes either (due to dust cloud when emptying it)

dyson are massively overpriced for what it is.

I bloody love mine - so much easier to just grab it off the wall rather than faffing unwinding and rewinding cord to plug in. Means I'm much more likely to actually do the vacuuming.

It's also amazing at it's actual job, i.e. cleaning - we have the most recent version, think it's the V10. So - not remotely shit.

Cloudsarebright · 17/06/2018 17:59

They break so easily. We switched to an ugly good old Henry about 7 years ago after going through 3 dysons in 5 years. Henry’s still going strong.

Pebblespony · 17/06/2018 18:03

God I love mine. Would never, ever go back to an awkward, plugged in one again. Gone are the days of hauling a vacuum with a bag around. House has never been cleaner.

starzig · 17/06/2018 18:08

I have Hoover stick and find it better than my dyson stick.

NeeChee · 17/06/2018 18:09

We inherited MIL's Dyson Animal, only because it was getting too heavy for her to lug about. It was terrible, constantly getting blocked with dog hair, overheating and switching off.
We too use an old Henry, they're ace, no issues despite being used and abused by DP at work and with plaster dust and soot in the house following much DIY work!

HaveYouSeenMyHat · 17/06/2018 18:09

I absolutely love mine. Best purchase ever!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/06/2018 18:13

If you mean a cordless, I think they're fine for a small house or flat, or for a quick clean up. Maybe not enough for a larger home. Main issue with ours is that the filter needs washing regularly or it won't work - and they need 24 hours to dry, away from direct heat. We ordered a spare (£12) so don't need to wait - but in the circs they really should provide one.
The dust container on ours can be difficult to empty - it doesn't just fall out - I usually have to help to winkle it out with a knife. (Straight into a bin liner, so no dust cloud).
However I wouldn't be without it - I use the big vacuum a lot less since I had it, especially upstairs.
Also bought one for dd who has endless mess/crumbs etc. from very little dcs. She finds it v useful.

cornishmumtobe · 17/06/2018 18:13

We love our cordless dyson. It's ace.

acornsandnuts · 17/06/2018 18:14

Hates my cordless one. Useless for dog hair. Buy a Shark. They are amazing.

pigeondujour · 17/06/2018 18:17

We absolutely love our V10 but relatives have hated earlier versions.

Jason118 · 17/06/2018 18:19

Shark=awesome

rwalker · 17/06/2018 18:20

few years old but our's is shit think the ball one might be better .

Flisspaps · 17/06/2018 18:20

I've got a big, old 3 bed end terrace, and love the Dyson V6.

The battery died on it but Dyson sent a new one out within days, dead easy to fit.

corcaithecat · 17/06/2018 18:22

Got rid of my Dyson and bought a Miele instead. Much better.

e1y1 · 17/06/2018 19:33

Jeez noooo...

Sebo (best), Oreck, Miele... basically anything but a Dyson.

I know that doesn’t help as you want a cordless. In my opinion (not that it really matters) is a cordless just can’t replace a corded.

If definitely wanting cordless, heard good things about the Shark ones. I’ve had a Shark corded, it was great (for the 3 months I had it and then subsequently broke it - not because of the workmanship of the vac though :()

SluttyButty · 17/06/2018 19:48

Unless all the above have tested a V10 cordless then they should try one before commenting.
It's revolutionised Dyson handhelds and in a class of their own.

Lindah1 · 19/06/2018 13:19

We have the Dyson animal, it does a really good job but the build quality is very poor we've only had it a couple of years and have had to glue bits back on already, and it's covered in scratches. And it's not like I use it every day Grin
