Robotic hoover

Has anyone got one and are they any good?

We have dark laminate floors, a very hairy dog and kids. I am constantly hoovering up, probably 4 times a day and it's still not clean. We want to change the floor but that isn't going to be done for a while so I'm thinking now a robot hoover is the next best option?

We can't afford a top one so looking for a reasonably cheap one!?

Get one, get one now. I didn’t want one at all but dh is in charge of hoovering. Now I wouldn’t be without it.

We’ve this one from this website which I’ve recommended on MN a fair few times now.

My god, I would love one of these. I've got black tiles on the kitchen floor. They are the bane of my life. Literally within minutes of hoovering you can see bits, crumbs and little white dog hairs (Dalmatian that sheds 24/7, 365 days a year).

I've been researching and from what I can see it's a case that you do get what you pay for.

How tragic would it be to ask for one for my birthday next month?

Love mine. We have a neato and it's the best thing ever. We have a large hairy dog and hard floors downstairs and carpet upstairs. I haven't hoovered or swept up since Christmas. I also bought a Dyson hand held for the stairs and have gotten rid of my normal hoover.
My house has never been cleaner.

Amazing!!! I need to convince DH! We have a dyson cordless which is good but I find I need it on max setting to do any good and then it has 5 mins power which isn't long enough!!

Mine changed my actual life. Do it!

They are really good! We have had cheap ones for about The £100 mark and they last about a year. May be worth doing to see if you get on with it, but the one we've recently upgraded to was an actual Roomba one but a more basic model, on offer in Lidl for about €300ish.

There are some which are specifically designed for animal hair which might be a good idea.

I have three ranging from £200 - £600. They are all good although the most expensive Roomba has a longer lasting battery which would be handy if it is a big house but not necessary for a smaller one. The other two are a cheaper Eufy and bottom of the range Roomba. Both equally good.

Reading this thread, I must have bought a bad one! Bought one a few years ago (can’t remember the make, but it cost about £150). After the novelty of watching it for a few hours, would set it off but it was forever stopping with an error message because of the front spiral brush being clogged with hair. I have 2 long-haired DDs. Persevered with it for a few months but I was spending so much time untangling and cutting hair from the brush that it was quicker just to run round with the vac myself. It’s now languishing in the back of a cupboard somewhere and I have a cleaner.

Wooden floors, cats and lots of crumbs in an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area. I’ve got back at least an hour of my life ever day. And all I have to do is empty the bin when it tells me to.

cleancleanclean · 27/06/2018 23:09

Sorry to be a downer, but I don't love ours to be honest. It does an ok job but not as good as a person would do. It seems to kind of roam around aimlessly and not cover the whole floor. It is better than nothing, but it doesn't replace a person and I still Hoover up after it, just less than I used to. We have a roomba.

hedwig2001 · 27/06/2018 23:40

I have the same one as SavoyCabbage. It is brilliant and has made a huge improvement to my life and house, as I hate cleaning!

BertieBotts · 28/06/2018 08:05

They definitely don't replace a person. You will still have to hoover. I just find it means you don't have to do as much of that annoying in-between hoovering, which I appreciate.
