Hello!
I’m in the market for a new mattress as my partner and I are splitting and so I’ll need to buy a few new items to furnish my flat.
As it is I bought a Simba mattress back in 2016 which I was thoroughly impressed with, I liked the fact that it is not too hard or soft and that it is quite responsive and springy, which is what I have been used to. Unfortunately however, we moved house several months after the purchase and even though we used a professional moving company who did a fabulous job of moving our stuff, when the mattress was placed in its new position, it was all lumpy. I’ve since been turning it regularly (top-to-toe) to try to smooth these lumps out but almost a year later, the mattress still is lumpy. Has anyone else had this experience? I read on the JL website (where I bought the mattress from) that someone else stored their mattress on its side for a less than a week and found it was also lumpy thereafter, to which the company told her that mattresses should not be stored on their sides! This is a real cheek if true as my mattress was merely moved from one house to another less than a mile down the road and was on its side in transit for nothing more than an hour or two. I’ve contacted Simba to ascertain what can be done about this and await their response and I’ve searched the web but cannot find any mention of this being a problem so perhaps mine just came from a bad batch. I am anticipating a positive response response from Simba and would not be adverse to buying another one (on the proviso they can guarantee this will not happen again), but I've read it can take some convincing for them to accept any issues.
So with this in mid, I need a back up plan. I’ve been really quite frustrated by the reviews of mattresses online. None of the review sites are very useful and I suspect it is because, as one site put it, they cannot write anything subjectively negative about the mattresses as said companies have very fierce legal departments who sue review sites if they are perceived to cause ‘damage’ to the brand.
So with this in mind, I haven’t really been able to get honest feedback on what is the best mattress. Cost is obviously a consideration but I can go up to £700, which puts me in prime prime position for a mattress of very good quality, I’d say. The flat I am moving to is temporary and I’ll most certainly need to move again, hence want to ensure the mattress will not distort if moved. I’ve investigated Eve (too hard it seems, so out), Hyde and Sleep, Leesa, Casper (doesn’t offer 100 night free trial so out), Dormeo, etc. I like the fact that some of the mattresses come in slightly larger European sizes so would be swayed intuit direction all else being equal.
Can anyone offer any experiences of the above (or others!) which might be useful?
Thank you very much for your help!
