Bad housekeeping

pirategirl · 20/05/2007 21:53

I have had the same tin of furniture polish for about 18 months. it is still 3/4 full

I have the same kitchen spray as i did when i moved here one yr ago.

I want to get the mop out and do the bathroon lino, but a wet towel and some bathcleaner on occasion, really does suffice.

In my defence, its just me and dd 5 living here, and we are not really that stinky.

my best mate cleans most of her house with babywipes lol.

hooray!

am liking you lots!

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 20/05/2007 21:57

and what's wrong with the babywipe school of cleaning..ahem...although i can report today that they don't get biro off sofas I also (from the other thread) have a plastic box full of bits and pieces on one end of my kitchen work surface and a large amount of clutter round my fruit bowl (easy solution, should all stop eating fruit) also a kitchen table constantly covered with paper/pens/half finished drawings - particularly nice one in situ at moment of me with blue hair..

colditz · 20/05/2007 21:57

Beware - bad housekeeping can lead to infestation by carpet beetles and their larvae are fucking gross and you will have to throw your soft furnishings away if they don't fit in your washing machine - er, according to my friend.

colditz · 20/05/2007 22:01

I have had a tin of furniture polish for 4 years. I bought it when I moved in.

In my defence, nothing I own needs polishing.

fireflyfairy2 · 20/05/2007 22:06

I use babywipes to clean my sofa.

Use dettol wipes to do the kids bathroom.

I hate cleaning.

LynetteScavo · 20/05/2007 22:09

pirate girl, I really don't understatand the point of your thread, except to presume what you have stated is generally considered bad house keeping. I have many, many clening products which have hardly been used.
Baby wipes are the most practical things to use to clean a house. I get through about 6 packets of Pampers Sensitive a week, (although some of those are used to wipe bottoms).

pirategirl · 20/05/2007 22:15

well i just have this inner voice telling me there must be good ways of doing things, or even 'correct' ways.

but my ways seem bad, lazy, or indifferent.

at least tho, i change the hoover bag fairly regularly, as i have bad memories of my mother's stinky, sicky hoover. My sister and i used to run for cover and hold our noses.

yeuck

Lynette, why does there have to be a point to a thread?

DimpledThighs · 20/05/2007 22:23

lynette - 'tis good thread

MadamePlatypus · 20/05/2007 22:25

Baby wipes - practical maybe, but I find loo roll cheaper

DaphneHarvey · 20/05/2007 22:39

There is a point to this thread - it is the thread for slatterns. My spiritual home. I have just thrown out a packet of Dettol flushable loo cleaning wipes, because they've all gone dry (although in my defence, I will say I'd forgotten I had them, and cheap kitchen roll and dettox spray has done the job in between). I have things in the back of my fridge, pickled onions from the Christmas before last, for instance, that I just can't face clearing out. I just hate cleaning! On Tuesday, I'm paying someone £54 to clean my oven. No-one can out-slut me (and I'm weirdly proud of that).

macmama73 · 20/05/2007 22:41

Well done, I feel much better now.

Have been wondering why there is no "Bad Housekeeping" topic, I never venture into the Good Housekeeping topic as I am not a good housekeeper

TricityBendix · 20/05/2007 22:44

Errm, hello? You use how many babywipes to clean the house? ever heard of washing a cloth? Think of the waste in landfill !?

Incidentally I've had furniture polish for at least three years... and there's no need for kitchen spray.

LynetteScavo · 20/05/2007 23:06

I knew some one would pick me up on the baby wipes! I do feel guilty, yes I do.

EHM · 20/05/2007 23:26

I clean my couches with 'bugs away' antibac wipes & every other surface with them too.(have 2 cats) I mop my floors, but do housework most days. don't use polish now.

rabbleraiser · 20/05/2007 23:31

He he he, Daphne! Fifty Four quid?

Where's he/she getting the £4.00 from?

rabbleraiser · 20/05/2007 23:32

Ahem, that should have been in italics.
