Do you have a set routine for cleaning? How do you do it?

The housework is just getting too much for me.
Without meaning to sound like I'm showing off, we live in a big 4 bed house and there is mess everywhere.
I have no routine or structure to my days hence all the mess all the time.

I've considered the Fly lady thing but tbh, the whole faffing about shining your sink and putting on make up to do it just seems daft.

So how do you do it?
Do you have a set routine that you do week in week out?

i try hard all day to ignore it
they go to bed
i kick it all into a corner and oull rug over the top

viola

Nbg · 19/05/2007 11:44

Out of interest MD, where do you store the childrens toys?

Ah,that is where all day childcare is excellent. Hussle them out before they make a mess and only let them back in at very end of day.
Also take as many meals as poss. outside.

MarsLady · 19/05/2007 11:45

Yes. She comes on Tuesdays at 12.30 for 4 hours.

I find it all so exhausting

moondog · 19/05/2007 11:46

They have big bedrooms (one of the reasons we liked the house) so as long as they are in there,I don't mind. They will help me do a 20 min. tidy before bed about once a week.

In the sitting room i have a big corner cupboard that they all go in. Atrs and crafts and games stuff is all stored in a big old school cupboard in my entrance hall.

Nbg · 19/05/2007 11:48

See arts and crafts stuff is a PITA.

I have it all in a box but I have to store it upstairs as theres no where else for it to go.

Yes,tis a bloody nuisance.
Pretend you've lost it.
Plenty of time to do all that crap at nursery or school.

cleaning?????

i am on my way to having an automated house, dh is left to tackle the dishwasher and washing machine, roomba hoovers, the cats tend to do the dusting with their tails and anything else can be left to the cleaner who does the bathrooms etc twice a week, oh and a scooba cleans my laminate floors etc!

Nbg · 19/05/2007 11:51

lol

and then that brings another problem of millions of art pieces everyday.

Cursory glance complete with adoring comments Nbg then straight into the attic.

Nbg · 19/05/2007 11:52

I so want a cleaner but cannot afford one.

Mortgaged up to the hilt in a huge house that I'm strugging to keep lol.

nbg- a good tip for the endless pieces of artwork keep a few on the fridge and then frequently say
"daddy was saying he needs some colour in his shed, shall we put these up for him!"

Nbg · 19/05/2007 11:53

lol MD

Actually I have stolen one of dh's bendy folder things and started to put them all in there.
There only so much wall space one person has.

moondog · 19/05/2007 11:54

Oh I couldn't bear a cleaner or an au pair even though dh wants me to (him being away an' all)
Couldn't do with idea of strange folk in me house.

DevilsAdvocado · 19/05/2007 11:54

I hate cleaning.

I resent the fact that I am the only one in this house who cares about the state of it.

A shelf in dd's room fell down about a month ago. It is still sitting in the place dp left it, and the items that were on it are still sitting in the hallway I have told dp that I am calling a handyman [ie:his uncle] on Monday morning if he hasn't repleaced the shelf by this evening. His answer? "Well football is on at 3pm"

My kitchen is always clean as I can't stand mess in the room I use the most. Bathroom and kitchen and livingroom were all done yesterday, and utility room.

Just have the 3 bedrooms to do between today and Monday.

moondog · 19/05/2007 11:55

I sound like a right bitch don't I?
No,I do put them in the kitchen. Dd's room is also covered in artwork.I even laminate the best ones so they last longer.

Nbg · 19/05/2007 11:56

A cleaner would be nice but at the same time, doing it all myself and having that feeling of satisfaction is good also.

Oooh, I love cleaning and having a sparkling house.
I bloody love it.

MarsLady · 19/05/2007 11:57

Moony... she's not strange. She is an angel sent from above

moondog · 19/05/2007 11:58

Mars.
I know that noone would do it to my high standards y'see so it would end up causing more stress.

Nbg · 19/05/2007 12:01

I hate you MD.

In the nicest possible way of course

FWIW Nbg, we live in a tiny two bed house and we have the same problem. We've no space to put anything so nothing has a proper home. We really really need to address the storage issue. We've two cats as well so there's dust and cat hairs everywhere. You have to move about ten things to get at what you want. It's a nightmare.

DH is at home most days during the week and he's a meticulous kind of a guy and he has trouble keeping on top of it as well (it has given him new respect I think )

I would love a cleaning routine, but I tried when I was on maternity leave and it lasted a day!

Nbg · 19/05/2007 12:09

lol TM.

How is work going?

OP posts:
Twinklemegan · 19/05/2007 12:11

Pretty good thanks (apart from fighting to keep my current pay but that's another story). It's so so busy though. Because we've lost one of the very small team through restructuring I'm doing the work of two people.

Nbg · 19/05/2007 12:15

Thats crap

Dh is at an NVQ awards ceremony at CH next month. I cant go though.
Woldnt mind usually but its free food and drink
