Cleaner charging £24.50 per hour?

I’m in the north west. I’ve never had a cleaner, but I have 2 kids, am pregnant and working, DH works long hours and I’m not keeping on top of it. I live in a 2 bed terrace. I contacted an agency who said they can do a trial clean for me in a couple of weeks, they send 2 employees for “an hour or a bit over” and do the whole house plus one room deep cleaned, bring all their own products and are fully insured and DBS checked.

Sounds great but it’s £49 per visit which is £24.50 per cleaner per hour. I’ve read on mumsnet that people are paying around £15 an hour, is that still right?

The quote states they'll do a deep clean for £49. Ask what the normal weekly charge will be after the initial visit.

Way too much

wejammin · 24/05/2018 12:12

@wowfudge when I booked it the lady said they do a deep clean of one room each visit, by deep clean she said she means moving the furniture to clean behind and cleaning the windows. The fee is the same each visit.

Fair enough.

Isn't a deep clean more than just windows and under furniture?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 24/05/2018 12:37

For use of 'the girls' only, you should find someone else!

MarshaBradyo · 24/05/2018 12:38

Oh deep clean
That probably is more

I live in South Manchester and would happily clean your house for £10ph :)

NanFlanders · 24/05/2018 12:43

I pay £33 for three hours direct to cleaner. We've had her for 10 years and she's superb.

DanglyEarOrnaments · 24/05/2018 16:18

It's not unheard of but is at the higher end of UK cleaning prices.

DropZoneOne · 24/05/2018 16:28

Cleaning the windows and moving the bed out an inch to go over behind it is not a "deep clean"! £49 for 2 hours cleaning is outrageous. Ask for recommendations on your local Facebook page/group.

Hang on are they say that in 1 hour the two of them will manage a full standard clean of your house and a film deep clean of one room?? No way. I would love to see them working and the finish when they were “done”

NameChanger22 · 24/05/2018 16:32

Wow, I shouldn't have bothered going to university, or getting loads of qualifications or working in my low-paid desk job for the last 20 years. It seems that cleaning is the one of the most lucrative jobs out there now. I'm off to find a cleaning job.

Moving furniture isn’t a deep clean. That’s a standard clean. I do that every visit. I started a deep clean yesterday, more today and will finish tomorrow. It’s floor to ceiling clean of walls, all pictures/Mirrors removed from walls, all architraves and skirting boards, doors and frames, radiators, down behind radiators, Windows, frames, sills, curtain poles/rails, light switches and sockets. Carpet shampooed too if wanted. Deep clean means the entire room, all surfaces.

The gentleman I work for has this set up with an agency- 2 cleaners come for one hour, he pays £38, NE Scotland. I thought that was even a bit steep as the ladies are paid around £10/11per hour.
