So I walked into the kitchen today after work and seen a mouse run across it ! After the shock I closed the kitchen door and phoned my DP - she brought home
Mouse traps however we do have two cats - who live in utility room/outside due to my allergies. We managed to get two mice out from
Behind the fridge (alive) with the cats help and set them free into the field beside our house. We let the cats stay in the kitchen for a few house to make sure no more in there and then cleaned it top to bottom - found dropings behind the fridge and in one corner. Found two solitary dropings in the living room - let the cats into investigate they didn't find anything - do you think we got them all?? We have set 5 alarms tonight between kitchen, living area and one outside our room. We had cleaned the house top to bottom on Sunday evening too and did not see anything - hoping they had just got in

I guess you'll soon find out whether you have an infestation or not, just wait a couple more days to see if there are any new droppings or god forbid a mice running through the house.

Cats are quite useless if you don't keep them inside but it's understandable with your allergy. It can also be dangerous for them as well - "As tempting as it sounds, it is not a good idea to leave your cat to hunt them down. This can result in your feline friend getting ill with a dangerous disease." (source: www.fantasticpestcontrol.co.uk/pest-profiles/mice/ )

In any case, there's much you can do to detect the rodents and even prevent them from entering the house.

Keep every food item in top cupboards, tins or fridge. Even stuff in packets.

Thanks for the advice - no new droppings and none in the traps - hopefully they are all gone!! We ordered the plug in detterant for rodents last night as we are living in a building site so think they could easily return !!

So no mice or dropings in 10 days then found new droppings today - no mice in any of them traps which we kept out just encase - do you think this is a new mouse or did we not catch them all?? We have been checking every day to make sure ! Such a pain

"do you think this is a new mouse or did we not catch them all?" - Both are plausible. Where do you keep the traps by the way? I've read that it's most effective if you place them in the kitchen since mice go there to scavenge for food anyways and might be tempted by an easy find. Do you use any sort of bait? Is the trap a snap trap or a poisonous one?
You should also look for any holes or other openings they might be using to enter the house and seal those to prevent them from coming.

We think they may be able to get in through a hole where the sky cables come in - the lovely sky man left a hole in our living room wall 😫 We caught one mouse yesterday. We had 3 snap traps in the kitchen one in the hall under the table near the door, one behind the tv and in the cupboard on the landing - they are snap traps with chocolate on them - read somewhere they are attracted to that - any other suggestions welcome! Living in a building site is not fun at the minute!!

I’ve had huge success with those plug in rodent deterrent devices. It could just be coincidence but in my last two houses we’ve found small amounts of droppings, cleaned up, plugged in one of those things and never found any more.

"We think they may be able to get in through a hole where the sky cables come in - the lovely sky man left a hole in our living room wall " - Classic. We had the same issue when we had a new kitchen fitted. Nowadays handymen and the like are especially careless when it comes to securing the house against pests. They just do what they were called for without caring about the mess they leave after...

Anyways, try moving the traps a little more towards the walls, I've read that mice move alongside them in order to memorize the path that leads to the food. Also, change the bait with peanut butter. I've enver heard of somebody using chocolate as a bait but I have watched a video where they baited the traps with peanut butter and it worked rather well. Don't expect quick results though, give it a week or so.

As for those rodent sound or whatever devices, I see them working only temporarily if at all. They do require electricity, meaning you have to have them constantly plugged into a socket (which may also be located in an inconvenient/ineffective spot, thus not working to its best). And you'll probably want to turn them off eventually? Will the mice return then?

Justusfornow, try to change your tactic a bit but don't postpone calling an exterminator for too long as mice are incredibly fast to reproduce. You need to seal that hole they are entering from as well. If nothing works, try calling those Fantastic pest control guys, they've sorted our mice problem in the past so I can vouch for them.

Thanks for your advice, I read somewhere chocolate was good I might try changing it tonight. We have only just received the plug ins today,as they had to be signed for, I think we will need to keep them plugged in as long as they are building here unfortunately. I've contacted sky and in the mean time have taped over the whole,I'll
Get someone else out to sort it if not ! Such a pain

Use one or the other. It's rather counterintuitive to try and lure them into traps while having a repellant machine driving them away.
