I hate my dishwasher. Do you love yours?

Despite many attempts at de-gunking, cleaning out the spinny arms, maintaining the rinse aid/salt, adjusting the water hardness controls, my dishwasher is still stubbornly shit at cleaning dishes. The main problem is if there is any tiny spec of non rinsed food stuff on anything, it spits it all up into the cups and glasses above and then bakes it on so that most things come out dirtier than they went in. I appreciate rinsing is required to a certain extent but honestly the amount of time I spend rinsing or re washing things negates the point of the dishwasher in the first place.

So can anyone recommend a dishwasher that actually washes things and is a pleasure to open?!
bonus points if it actually dries plastic things!

I clean mine about once a month with a dishwasher cleaner or half a bottle of white vinegar in a bowl on the top rack on a long hot wash.

The filter needs cleaning often to get all the crap out otherwise it doesn't wash properly. Take it out and take it apart, scrub it and run under hot water until it is clean and grease free.

Cheap dishwasher tablets are a waste of money, I found they didn't do the job.

Check you have enough salt, find the setting and adjust. Find the instructions for cleaning the machine arms, usually by removing them.

Check the outlet pipe, if it is not emptying you will not get clean dishes, it needs to be the right height (look online for your particular machine and check it).

Does it heat up? If the heater is broken and it is washing in cold water it's not going to get anything clean.

Bosch here too. I put everything in covered in muck, no pre rinse. All comes out lovely on a1hr cycle. We do run an empty cycle with the dishwasher cleaner stuff from sainsbury's once a month.

Just like you , OP, I hated mine, spent hours cleaning out the holes in the washer arms and having to re-wash everything.
Then I realised that the filter had never been screwed in properly! It has been perfect ever since.

We had a neff inbuilt one which was amazing! It has a separate draw at the top for cutlery which meant they were always cleaned well as they were separated. Just had to sell it as we've moved and can't match the cabinet doors😭

I have a beko Integrated DW and it's great. Washed really well. It gets a soda crystals and white vinegar wash once a month to degunk it, and keeping the salt levels topped up really helps with marks and drying. No idea why but it's better when salt is in it, but we are a hard water area so that might have something to do with it.

It wasn't expensive, about £200. Basic but washes well.

Bosch has been a good make for me. AO.com good delivery and prices too. I paid about £400, but perfect quiet cleaning so I'm happy.

Mines a Beko and it’s good. Old one was an Electrolux and I hated it. Wasn’t till it died and I got a new one I understood why people love having one.

You must have plenty of salt if your water is hard and top the rinseaid up regularly even if using all in one tabs. The spinning arms block easily and this is usually why glasses etc on the top get gritty residue in them if they’re not rinsing properly. You have to actually remove the arms (it’s easy) and run it under the tap to make sure the water flows.

Dishwashers they don’t work are soooo frustrating but when you have one that does it’s great.

Ours is a Hotpoint and it’s temperamental. It’s perfect one day and the next half the stuff needs washing again. We’ve had everything out, cleaned it all, used expensive tablets, filled the salt and the rinse aid but it makes no difference. It’s about 6 years old and replaced our old Hotpoint which was about 15yrs old when the bottom split. I think they just don’t make them like they used to.

When it goes completely I’m getting a Beko. We’ve got a Beko tumble dryer and it’s amazing. We’ve decided there’s just no point spending a fortune on white goods anymore.

Mine is a Bosch logixx and has been going for several years. I scrape rather than rinse and use the long eco wash mostly with the occasional 29 minute cycle

Tryingoutanothername · 26/05/2018 11:31

Ours is pretty good but has been crap this week since I bought Finish rather than Fairy tabs.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 26/05/2018 11:49

I am the dishwasher in my house! I kinda love me. 32 years old, still going strong...no gunk Grin

Sorry, unhelpful I know

Fenellapitstop · 26/05/2018 12:03

Ours is a beko and it's great. Much better than the old one

Sunnysidegold · 27/05/2018 08:33

I only roughly scrap my plates but am meticulous about finding when we have a rice dinner as it's the grains of rice that stick in the arms. It sounds like you have done everything I would do to check it. Have you ever had it services? Might be worth it to figure out if it's something more technical. Also could let you know if it's worth just Getting a new one!

ReanimatedMuse · 27/05/2018 08:37

Like pp I have a fisher paykel two drawer. It's transformational!

No dirty dishes sitting in surface waiting for dishwasher to finish/get unloaded. It is AMAZING
