Okay - have brand new bathroom. Need tips on how to keep it clean.

I'm generally a clean-ish person, but have never ever cleaned a bath - I kind of thought that having a bath in it would clean it, haha.

What are people's routines for cleaning:
bath
shower screen
waterfall taps (do these get grubby? we're in a soft water area so doesn't crud up too bad)

Many thanks !!

Squeegee the shower screen after every shower.

Congratulations on the new bathroom! I tend to spray the bath with cleaning stuff ( I use Method) at night and then wipe and shower it down in the morning. I also have a cloth in the bath/shower and wipe around while my conditioner is on. I spray the sink and leave it while I clean the loo. I use microfibre cloths and usually put a bit of toilet cleaner in the loo before bed. My bathroom tends to get dusty so I give it a quick wipe with a dry cloth before I use sprays because otherwise it just wets and spreads the dust! If you ever get limescale, HG professional limescale is the shit!! Taps might get a bit cloudy, white vinegar in a sandwich bag tied to them overnight does the trick but you don't need to do it often. Otherwise just wipe them down with shower spray. And squeegee the shower screen!

I keep one of those washing up sponges with the handle, with watered down bathroom cleaner in it, in the bathroom. Then the bath/ sink/ tiles can be wiped over quickly each morning and then showered or wiped over.

Jenda · 14/05/2018 20:47

By the way I don't do all that every day!

RufflingFeathers · 14/05/2018 21:17

Good tip re the washing up sponges, esp watered down. What is bathroom cleaner? is it just like a multipurpose cleaner? or anti-bac spray?

Squeegee - is that the window cleaning thing - does it actually work to keep it clean, soap free ?

Over the last few years I've started using anti-bac wipes for toilet/sink but want to develop system which uses cloths instead - how do people do that? have a different cloth for toilet than sink? do you wash the cloths and how often?!!

Sorry for all the questions...

I have a cloth system of 'pink for sink, blue for loo' to remind DH not to use the blue clothes for anything else if that helps? They get washed every use as bathrooms are germy places.

Bathroom cleaner is specially formulated for hard water areas where you get more soap scum and lime scale. In soft water areas, I find ordinary multi purpose cleaner is fine. I clean the bath once a week and rinse after each use.

mommybear1 · 15/05/2018 14:53

Yep colour code your microfibre cloths they are brilliant re shower screen is it glass? If so white vinegar and a scourer will see if any hard water marks then wipe down with said microfibre cloth and give it a spray with Pledge and wipe down - it will help repel the water and you can get away with cleaning it once a week rather than daily Wink

RufflingFeathers · 15/05/2018 22:14

Arhh good tip re pledge -

Any ideas how to keep the plastic seal bit at the bottom of the shower screen clean ? IME that's the bit that looks mankiest quickest....

when my shower tray looks a bit manky the seal bit I pour bleach on it and leave for a while then rinse.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 18/05/2018 08:03

Squeegee shower screen and all the walls, I got the car ones from Halfords (£5), its bigger than the normal shop ones so quicker.

The key is to do it every time after showering, me and Dh try to take it in turns to be the last one to shower, but I try to get in first Wink

For the seal at the bottom I wipe it over as best I can then spray with mould & mildew remover, rinse off. My main shower door doesn't have a bottom seal so I can squeegee right to the bottom.

I guess as an alternative to Pledge you could use a product called Rain-X. It's for car windscreens etc, to repel water.
